Every time new/casual fans watch...

Why does it seem when New or "every now and again" viewers watch something screwy always happens?

For example, with today's broadcast happening during the day there was more activity in my house than usually when its just me and a few other friends who follow the sport.

For example my Girl had a few of her friends over and they mostly laid by the pool but a few of them stopped to have a look just as Dos Anjos got to the North South position on Etim. The obligatory "69 comment" came from one of the girls. I managed to fire back a "Yeah, little did you know you had already mastered some Jiu-Jitsu"

Then for the main event a couple more people who are more casual 'whenever it is on spike' type fans came and one of my buddies who has been watching the every event with me for a while now starts hyping up how Silva was going to knock out Maia quickly and make it devastating..etc. The girls came in, the casuals gathered around..

By the 3rd I had started explaining that Anderson waits for people to engage and when he is fighting a grappler unwilling to engage it usually turns into something like this, I then decided to not even bother trying to make excuses for Silva.

Any-one else notice when you try to introduce the sport to new fans it flops to the uneducated eyes who are looking for excitement? It's the brawling exciting fights that are going to get most casual/first timers interested and once they become interested it is then they learn the intricacies of this great sport.

Any one know what I mean? Had this happen? Funny stories?

Come on I know people have experienced stuff like this before.. Showed first time viewers a fight and ended up havign a card/fight flop...

Was hyping MMA to one of my friends about 9-10 years back, I was training a little at the time. He finally decided to check it out. He came over to watch UFC 33, quite possibly the worst PPV UFC event ever (Vladdy/Tito),main card all decisions. Never watched another one until TUF1.

Hah yeah, that was a hard one to sell a new fan on.

ah c'mon.. Someone at least acknowledge the zinger I got on the mouthy girl who was making fun of the north south position. This is a valid topic which Im sure has happened to people many times. Hell it's happened to me before other than tonight's card.

My friend was visiting. He knows nothing about MMA. Told him this big fight was gonna be on TV (Fedor Rogers). Showed him a Fedor highlight. Then we watched the fight. He enjoyed it.

It's happened to me and I always try to come up with good excuses.
