Not only has Georges proven himself an effective striker, he's caused his striking to be even more effective due to the threat of his equally effective takedowns.
As most of us know, his current ground-and-pound strategy/threat began to manifest after his KO loss to Matt Serra. Ironically, at the time of their fight, nearly everyone thought Serra's best shot at beating GSP was to take Georges down and submit him. GSP went into the fight far more worried about Serra taking him down, and far less worried about the threat of Serra's standup. Serra took advantage of this opportunity to catch him on the feet.
It seems as if GSP's opponents are more and more concerned with Georges's takedown than they are having Georges concerned about their's. Yes, St. Pierre might have the best takedown defense in MMA, but not causing him to defend keeps him on the offense and dictating where the fight takes place.
Jake Shields will prove you wrong soon enough.
Are you saying Jake will sub GSP?
Very much the opposite. Jake will try the gameplan you suggest, and he will get tooled.
Great point.
GSP always moves to the center of the ring and make the contender adjust to his game.
In the KOS fight he was only pressured when he was on the outside and taken down from having his back on the fence.
Best defense avaunt GSP might be a better offense including striking and takedowns.
Just be ware of his JJ

The reason Georges doesn't worry about other guy's takedowns is because he doesn't have to, more or less.
Have you ever seen his sprawl? It's fucking insane, Kos had him hopping around on one leg in their first fight.
What're you supposed to do to stop that?
A lot more different?
Kos should have tried to wrestle. What did he attempt, like 3 TDs?
i honestly think serra had the perfect gameplan the first time around to come out aggressive and go for an early finish, i don't think anyone right now can compete on his level for a full 5 rounds
an improved thiago would have the best chance to win right now IMO if he just came forward with heavy strikes and was somehow able to avoid a quick takedown. i'm not saying he would have a great chance, but it's better than anyone else at the moment. shields, fitch, BJ? let's be serious, none of these guys have the tools to beat a motivated Georges
Skillset-wise, Koscheck had a far better shot against Georges than both Hardy had and Jake will, imho. I don't see Jake beating GSP because he doesn't seem to have the kind of KO power to catch Georges and I think St. Pierre's wrestling is just as good, if not better. Both Hardy and Koscheck have KO power but Georges was was expecting standup fights from both, so he did not have the 'takedown distraction' I've mentioned.
Chris Power - The reason Georges doesn't worry about other guy's takedowns is because he doesn't have to, more or less.

Exactly... I'm not saying Georges will get taken down easily, but Georges has to be concerned with the takedown in order to be caught on the feet. Basically you have to do what he's doing: using the threat of takedowns to make his striking more effective, and using the threat of striking to make his takedowns more effective.
"will look a lot more different"
You're the most craziest poster on this forum.
GageIsLegend - He will outclass shields in every area. It's going to look like gsp vs fitch but worse. <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
this
he will finish Shields in rd 3 or 4
I think everyone's weakness is fighting off of their back.
Whoever can get GSP their often enough will dethrone him...and probably defend against him too.
I love how the beat fighters and coaches in The world game planned to beat George and have failed. But people on here have it all figured out.
i love how ugers whine about non-troll threads that encourage discussion about fighting strategy
kos landed a few overhand rights to the back of georges head, but never landed it with the forearm like serra did to daze gsp
lmao @ Tomato Can's second post! haha Sorry, Brian! :)
Tomato Can - Very much the opposite. Jake will try the gameplan you suggest, and he will get tooled BIG TIME.
fixed.
