Expert needed - fixture change in high ceiling

Visiting my mom for a few days and she asked me to swap some light fixtures in her house - going from brass to nickel.  I did them all except these two above the entry way.  One is mounted 18 feet in the air straight up, the other is at the same height but over a staircase.  What the hell am I supposed to do/use/rent to reach these things?  My extension ladder won't cut it.

I had to change out an old brass chandelier that was 18ft high when I bought my house. The new fixture was 60lbs, & it was too far from the walls to use an extension ladder & electricians wanted $300 to do it.

I went to Home Depot & rented a 14ft A-frame ladder for like $15. 14ft was enough & it was a 30 minute job.

go rent some scaffolding

or

Maybe something like an adjustable “little giant” A frame?

Maybe hire an electrician ?

Don’t listen to this guy!  Electricians are crooks and perverts.

After doing some triginometry, linear algebra and machine learning, I've come up with the optimal solution.

If you require any more help I will be forced to charge you.

i just swapped out a very similar light. Thank god it was only an 8-9 ft ceiling. Fuck those heights. Mom would be paying the electrician $300.

Thanks for the tips.  She has a Home Depot about a mile down the road.  I'll check it out tomorrow and see what I can rent for the day.

I was an electrician and was never a crook.

This is why I hate high ceilings. Such a stupid concept. I don't get why they are so appealing.

Fair enough.  But were you a pervert?

They make boots for extension ladders so you don’t damage the ceiling. Also helps stick to the cieling. That’s what I use in a situation like this.  You’ll want a couple people to help probably. Just hold the fixture while you wire it. Some have a hook to hang the fixture on. Some don’t.

We did a fixture change out at one of Ted Turners homes here last week and was in this exact situation. It was nerve wracking putting together the refurbished 200 year old oil lamps from England that were made into a chandelier.
