Explain Fedor vs Coleman

I'm confused. Pride is making their US live event debut. The first time eva in the US.

Their main event features the greatest fighter in the world against an old, non top twenty heavyweight that was great in his time but that was was 8 to 9 years ago.

Also Mark Coleman is a relative unknown to the US audience.

I'm just shocked. I really don't get it?

If they wanted Fedor to face a former UFC heavyweight champ they've got Josh Barnett. He's young, he was a UFC champ in the 21st century and he beat Randy Couture for the title who is along with Chuck embodies MMA in the US.

Nothing against Mark he was great but the Gran Prix was six years ago and Fedor beat him in two minutes a little over 2 years ago.

Great to see Pride in the US but I'm stymied by the main event.

Randleman/Shogun??

As much as I agree with you that Coleman doesn't stand a chance against Fedor, I can't wait to see it.

"non top twenty heavyweight"

I disagree

The first fight was interesting. He was doing real well, but Fedor's armbar was wicked.

"LOL @ COLEMAN BEING AN UNKNOWN...unless youre 12..hes freaking known!!! "

He's not well known among ANYONE WHO DOESN'T ALREADY WATCH PRIDE.

rhodges your mistaken my friend.

Who /is/ well known among people who don't already watch Pride, that is under Pride contract, AND a heavyweight?

Barnett isn't much better known than Coleman; he was in the UFC more recently, but it was still over four years ago when he last fought in the US.

Boog he's known as the guy who got ktfo by Mirko by Pride fans.

That's the only highlight he has on the Pride compilation DVD's.

It is my understanding that Pride wanted Sylvia for this card but either he said no to the fight or the ufc balked when it came to letting him fight (probably both). Pride went with Coleman who they can introduce as a UFC HW champion. Also, Coleman is probably as well known as any of their HW fighters in the US. This way when Fedor beats him, Fedor beat an American UFC champ in the united states.

Too bad they couldn't get a Fedor/Arlosvski match-up.

Fedor only won because of a sloppy armbar in their first fight

"Fedor only won because of a sloppy armbar in their first fight"

LOL.

Coleman is still a big name to American MMA fans, plus with his wrestling skills he has a chance to make this a good fight, if he can avoid getting submitted.

Honhestly for the people complaining who should fedor fight, Alex, sergei, barnett, silva, crocop, minotauro are all part of the gp finals, and wont fight fedor 6 weeks after.

Really who else is better to fight him then coleman?

^^^ Werdum, Fujita, and Hunt would've been better than Coleman (for me).

all depends on how coleman does...damn it will be tough at his age to time his shots etc against the fedornator

Coleman is better than fuckin' Zulu.

He's a big mma name, and I'm sure part of Prides thinking is to line the US debut show with US fighters. What other credible US heavy do they have to offer Fedor other than Barnett, who's already in the GP- Answer=Coleman. Its that simple.

Kostaki, werdum for an american audience in your debuet no way. Werdum has had many boring fights and plays very defensive. And has no name in america.

COleman is better then fujia and hunt. After hunts terrible loss to barnett and fujita just got demolished by silva I dont see how they pose any better challenge against fedor.

I dont see how those fights are more intresting, especially when you take into consideration this is prides first american show they want an american name.

I understand, which is why I added 'for me'. :)

Yes, Werdum plays defensive but it'd be interesting to see what Fedor would do. Also, I would like to see Fedor fight Fujita again because it was exciting the first time around. And Hunt-Fedor just has 'bombs' written all over it.

"And Hunt-Fedor just has 'bombs' written all over it."

One way bombs to a grounded Hunt though.

Sylvia would have been a good choice
