Forgive my ignorance but could someone please explain what a "whizzer" is and how it is used?
The wizzer can itself be a throw, and can also be a counter to single legs, standing and on the mat, and can block various go behinds. It can also be used as a setup to a front headlock and other things. Very versatile thing...
It also happens to be an excellent counter to the standard jiujitsu tackle.
it helps me explain the concept of the wizzer better by breaking down the move into the pressure that makes it effective
so i'll tell my students that just because you have an overhook, its not a Wizzer until you start applying shoulder to shoulder downward pressure, and begin circling to face the same direction that your opp is facing. so this way, they always know to use motion to make that tie (or any other tie-up) work.
