Congrats to Matt Hughes and MFS!!!
Loved how Rogan called it a "changing of the guard" and how Hughes called McCarthy on pulling for Royce. I think UFC management must have been very confident in Hughes to have McCarthy ref it.
(And Royce Gracie's gameness is to be highly respected.)
Jake, I disagree, I don't think McCarthy was pulling for Royce. I think he was warning him he would end the fight if he didn't escape from being struck in a horrible position. I've heard McCarthy say the same thing in dozens of other fights.
Hughes was dominate. Too bad the kid never learned proper wrestling position though, I noticed he was on his knee's in side control the whole time ;)
Hughes dominated royce!He beat him worse than I thought he would .Too bad he didn't do a neck crank on royce.I can't believe the jiu jitsu legend allowed hughes to stay on his back .I just knew royce was going to reverse him.That's an easier position to escape than most robots think .
I was a little suprised that Gracie, a master of the guard, could not pull full guard with hughes riding on his knees. However, the extra space did cause Gracie to come to a base, thus leading to riding his back.
It was actually an enjoyable UFC, good matches.
McCarthy always yells out to the fighter who's getting his ass kicked.

I do respect royce for taking the fight .That took alot of balls to step in there.Gracie jiu jitsu evolved fighting other stylist etc.They learned to defeat artist from almost very style.Where royce failed last night"imo"was thinking that know one trains with the intention of beating gracie jiu jitsu.
I'm amazed that royce did so well with sakuraba.That was just a few years ago ,and it was a long tough fight!The fact is ....hughes is just a better fighter .His strength and technique were superioir in every way.This was as close as " spinx vs tyson"no ,it wasn't that close!

if you met and trained with Rickson in person, your views might change, he was put up and hyped by his family (Rorion) only to be cast aside, and of course is pushed by the fan boys. But in person he is a very nice person, and of course is sickly skilled. If you really want to see what GJJ is about, go to Rickson...
