Favorite movie you've seen recently?

What was the best movie you guys have seen recently and why?

I watched John Wick for the first time yesterday, so that.

Started the second one but fell asleep like 20 minutes in. Will finish sometime today.

Shimmer Lake on Netflix was really good

King Kong was loud and looked cool but my kids have taken over our living room though so I don't get to watch shit anymore.

I wanted to see it. I think they're doing a Godzilla-King Kong movie next.

Dax Shepherd is a perpetual annoyance to me. I don't like him at all.

I abhor extreme gun/gore porn in films, although those two movies were ok.

Speaking of Ryan Gosling, just saw La-La Land. Loved it. Brilliant movie, surprised it didn't take the Oscar. The ending was just so raw.

I like both Dax and Michael Pena and thought that movie was terrible.

Saw Dunkirk this weekend. It wasn't really what I expected but I liked it leaving the theater. The more I've thought about it since, the more I like it.

Dunkirk was ok. A bit controversial for its depiction according to some of my friends, but what can you do.

Check out La-La-Land though. You'd like it!

If you're talking about the 'whitewashing' controversy, that's a bunch of revisionist bullshit. The colonials played a role in the war but not really at Dunkirk.

I liked how understated it was most. I went in expecting a Saving Private Ryan-esque epic. Instead, it's unadorned and showcases a sort of humble heroism that's much more common in war than some rousing, St.Crispin's Day type of speech.
