When i think about that matchup, it definately seems like a fight randy could win. Randy is by far the best Greco wrestler Fedor would ever fight, his typical ground and pound style would not be very effective against Randy. Fedor never KOs people standing which would be Randys biggest weakness. I feel like Randy could win a decision.
it would be competitive for sure, but I would still favour Fedor. Both usually win their fights from the top, but Fedor has proven that he can fight very well from the bottom, while Randy was beaten by both Ricco and Barnett once they turned the tables on him. And their G&P is tame compared to Fedor's.
This is basically the only fight that matters in the HW division right now. I mean, Randy/Mino would be pretty cool, but Randy/Fedor is the real prize. Sadly, Randy can't have too much time left in his career and with Fedor's management playing hardball, we will probably never get to see it.
Fedor was on the bottom against Coleman, Hunt and Herring (just the ones I can think of right now), and went on to finish all those guys. Randy was on the botton against Randleman, Barnett and Rodriguez, and lost 2 out of 3.
I would think it would be competitive, but everytime Randy is counted out he wins and when we think he gonna win, he loses. So with the expectation that Fedor would beat him, I would have to take Randy on that Logic.
Based of what I saw on Saturday night, I dont think Randy has anywhere near the hand speed to deal with Fedor's stand up. I think Randy will get dropped and pounded out. Theres noway he could fight like he did on Saturday in stand up with Fedor.
I am a Randy fan and hope he proves me wrong but people age real fast when they are in with Fedor. It will be a great fight and I just hope that the final points can be agreed, with regards to the brother fighting etc.
The one wildcard with Randy is that he always comes with a great gameplan. A lot of times that is the difference in a fight. That being said, I don't think Randy would be embarassed by Fedor...but I don't see him winning that fight either.
I think Randy could definitely win. Like others have said, Fedor does cut (like all Russians) so Randy will have a chance to win that way.
I also agree that Fedor would be the fastest fighter Randy has ever fought and Fedor's stand up would give Randy fits.
In the clinch, as much as I love Fedor in the clinch, you have to give the edge to Randy, he's proven time and time again that he is THE best in the business there.
On the ground, it's all Fedor.
Tough fight for either, but I'd think Fedor would be the favorite.
"You really need to put a time limit on the past and not give it so much credibility in future outcomes, I have learned this the hard way with Randy. For instance, if Tito and Wand were to fight again do you think the outcome of the first has any bearing on now?"
Actually yes, because Wanderlei doesn't look to good against guys who can take him down and control him (see Arona), so I wouldn't be too surprised if a rematch looked similar. Silva-Belfort would be the example you're looking for.
As for Couture, if I remember correctly he has never been on the bottom since Ricco, so if he can survive there nowadays is still unproven.
Randy has improved a lot, but ultimately he still wins his fights by ground & pound, and IMO Fedor would do more damage in 3 minutes on top of Randy than Randy would do in 5 rounds on top of Fedor.

Yes...but I'm not so sure Fedor would put Randy on his back at all.
You guys are saying that because Randy beat a guy (Gonzaga), who if you were to cover up his best win, has a totally unimpressive record, that Randy could beat Fedor. Cover up any one of Fedor's wins and you've got a guy who STILL has the best heavyweight record of all time.
It flat out doesn't make sense. Gonzaga is unproven. Couture is inconsistent. Fedor has fought the best and is essentially unbeaten.
