A match pitting Fedor Emelianenko against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva at Strikeforce's January 29 event had been proposed as a possibility by several news outlets, but it's not going to happen, according to Strikeforce director of communications Mike Afromowitz.
Emelianenko fought just once during calendar year 2010, for a grand total of 69 seconds, losing via triangle/armbar to Fabricio Werdum.
Since then, Emelianenko's M-1 representatives have been engaged in contract extension talks with Strikeforce in hopes of a new deal, but the sides have been unable to reach terms. Emelianenko has one bout remaining on his current deal.
I just wonder how much control his managment has over him. Living in a country like that makes me wonder if he is more or less a slave to his contract with M-1. On the contrary is he just tired of fighting??
epwar - I still don't understand how one gets to negotiate after every fight when they have signed a 3-fight contract. Anyone?
You cannpot have a guy take a significant fight on his final contracted fight. If he wins the promotion is in a horrible position - could even be their champ that leaves. That is what happened with for example Jake Shields. So if the final fight in a contract matters, then you negotiate the next contract first.

I get that as a reason, but Fedor and his management team do this every single fucking time.
Sick of the BS. Oh, and don't blame just his management team, he hires them to work for him, and I believe he is an owner of M-1 too. It's his responsibility too.
I bet Dana is glad he is not caught up in this circus act.
The fight between Fedor and Antonio will happen. To the nincompoop that diced Antonio for getting knocked down by Mike Kyle, well, yes, he did get knocked down, by a very hard and well placed shot, from a tough fighter from a great camp. Antonio withstood the storm, and demolished Mike in the second rd, proving that he is also good when it gets rough! To say something negative about Antonios performance in that fight shows that you dont understand what your watching!
I'm beginning to feel that I don't care if he fights anymore...the world of MMA is shifting their concentration to Overeem it seems like. Well Deserved too...
Sorry, but you dont know what your watching. A half Heavy weight can put just about as much power as a heavyweight behind a punch, and lots of times, as in this case, will be the faster man. We knew when they told us the Op had changed to Mike Kyle, that there would be a risk, that if AKA had put Mike in at short notice, that his trainers, whom are very experienced people, and were watching him train every day, thought he had a chance, and they were right! What makes MMA exciting is its unpredictability, how many times do we see things that on paper seem one way, turn completly different in reality? There are many variables in this game, there are no givens, a fight is a fight, anything can happen! Mike came in, looking for a hole which he knew was there ( and we are plugging it!) Antonio got knocked silly , but recomposed himself and defended. He came back to the corner and said: Nows my turn! And did what he had planned to do! Please remember, Antonio went 3 rds with a supposedly glass jawed and well prepared Arlovski in the fight before, hit him very hard more then once, and Arlovski still stood! Antonio actualy out boxed a guy who was the better boxer, who put Fedor in trouble when they fought! To say negative things about Antonio now, and to say that this is an easy fight for Fedor, is just shallow, and simply not the truth.
Oh well, why am I argueing? just silly of me! Let the fight happen, we will know the truth! Its a dificult fight, but I know Antonio can win. Either way, will be a dramatic fight, will be a very well prepared pair of fighters, it is a very important fight for both of them! They will both put their hearts and souls into it! Isnt that what everyone wants to see?
