i know im asking a lot but can a blue namer plez
well im kind of a noob drummer and i dont understand the counting on this fill
video starts w a basic eighth note groove then the fill is sixteenth notes.
so 1e&u 2e&u 3e&u 4e&u
then he does 8 random hits and goes back into the groove, how does this second part of the fill equal a full bar?? am i saying this right?? it seems like it ends on 3 instead of 1. after the 8 notes how does this put him back in time on 1???
hope this makes sense,
basically i dont understand how to count out this whole fill after the first 16 notes.
thx in advance
He's playing common time (4/4). He does three measures of the standard rhythm, and then it's an additive meter count on the last section, the final two measures. Each of the first four rolls are a beat and a half and the final roll is two beats (which totals eight beats for two measures: six beats of the first roll repeated four times, and two beats of the last fill to finish out the measure).
Wow, drumming is technical now. In my day we just hit.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you cant understand this lick based off of what de does at 1:36 I don't think writing it out will be much help. Where are you at op? You probably need to see that lick in person.
On a side note. Tre Cool did this exact lick on the song Burnout in the intro. Maybe listening to it 100x over will help and im not joking. Ive done this on numerous occasions. Hang in there. All of the sudden one day you'll just nail it.
Needs more cowbell IMO
Burt i understand what hes playin
Together rlr 4 x for a total of 16
Then the second half of the fill is 8 random hits on the kit
What i dont understand is the timing, how does allow u to come back in on 1??
Plez realize im a noob and not taking any lessons, just tryin to figure this out on my own:)
Btw yeah sometimes i fell like i listen to songs over and over again. I shall check out the tre cool song now. Thx
Oh, I think I understand what you're saying now.
The lick is 3 beats long so if youre doing an 8 beat lick it has to be the lick twice then 2 more beats to get back to one. 3-3-2 style lick. A 16 beat lick would be 3-3-3-3-4 or 3-3-3-3-3-1. Hes playing it as 3-3-3-3-4 which is easier imo.
Listen to the intro of Unsung by Helmet for a classic example for an 8 beat lick that is played as 3-3-2 instead of 4 and 4. California uber alles by Dead Kennedy's has a similar 3-3-2 lick in it.
ok i got it now.
i was counting the beginning of the fill as 1e&u2e&u3e&u4e&u
when really it goes something like this...
1 &u2
& 3e&
4 &u1
& 2e&
3e& 4e&u
bam not ur right back to hitting crash and kick on 1.
basically i didnt count the start of the fill correctly so it was putting me off time.
Lol it seems so obvious now
Drums are funny like that. On day something seems like a mystery then the next day you crack it and think you're a retard for not being able to crack it sooner.
Nothing to add except, AWESOME, good for you for doing new stuff. Im doing farming. Its like drum, for fat people.
U beein serious about farming??
If so awesum for phoenix
Raxbot said it in the beginning just took me a sec to figure out what he meant
Each of the first four rolls r a beat and a half.....that is dead on:)
Thx guys
Just in my backyard and side yard so far but its a ton of fun.
