Fight Club Challenge 4 - November 19th - Calgary

The Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Fight Club would like to invite all competitors from any gym to participate of our last tournament of the year:

Fight Club Challenge 4 (FCC 4)

On November 19th, at the BJJ Fight Club located at:

6404 Bowness Rd NW
Calgary, AB
Tel: 403 701 0237

This will be a Gi only tournament so please do not forget your uniforms!

Since this is our last edition for the year we will be distributing trophies for the best competitors of the year in the following categories:

Kids - 5 trophies (1 - 1st place, 4 - runners up)
Ladies - 1 trophy (women's champion for the year)
Men - 1 trophy (men's overall champion for the year)

As usuall we will start the kids at 11 AM followed by the adults at 1 PM.

The weigh ins will start at 9:30 AM on the day of the tournament. The weigh-ins and registration will close at 10:30 AM for the kids and 12:30 PM for the adults, no exceptions.

Cost is $30.00 for the kids and $40.00 for the adults.

The rules are simple, we follow what has been specified by the IBJJF, with some small modifications for our needs. There will be a rules meeting before the kids category at 10:30 AM and at 12:30 for the adults.

As the name implies, this tournament is a Challenge. This means that in the adult divisions, we encourage everyone to challenge themselves to the limit.

You may "fight up" a category, ie.: say you are a middle weight white belt, you not only can compete in your own belt level and weight class, but you can also challenge yourself by competing in the higher belt and weight divisions as well as the Absolute division.

Women are also encouraged to challenge themselves by not only participating of the women's division, but also the men's divisions.

There will be a $200.00 reward for the Absolute division winner, and as usual, we will sum up all the points you acquire on this and previous tournaments to determine the years Champions.

Hope to see you all there and please don't hesitate to write or call if you have questions.

what are the weight classes?

Sasci - The rules are simple, we follow what has been specified by the IBJJF, with some small modifications for our needs. There will be a rules meeting before the kids category at 10:30 AM and at 12:30 for the adults.

What exactly does "small modifications for our needs." mean??

BJB

The weight classes are:

White Belt - under 154.9, 155 to 169.9, 170-184.9, 185-199.9, 200-214.9, 215 and over

Blue Belt - under 159.9, 160-179.9, 180-199.9, 200 and over.

"small modification for our needs":
ex.: in larger tournaments we have categories for every belt levels, ie. white, blue, purple, brown, black...
In the case of Calgary, there are not enough colored belts to break them down into belt categories, therefore we lump blues and above (unless all of a sudden, all the colored belts in town decide to compete).

another example is our Absolute division, where we do away with points, time limits and belt levels.

Thanks to all that participated and supported our tournaments this year.

We had a good turnout with some very exciting fights and support from nearly all jiu-jitsu clubs in the city and around the city of Calgary.

The children as usual were the big stars, putting on some very exciting matches that were very competitive.

The adult divisions also had some very interesting fights, in particular the participation of our Gracie Barra friend, Josh Russel putting on some very exciting fights against our very own Nikolay Bukharin.

The results will be posted soon, so please check back.
