Lots to like about 282 but the week before that is a solid fight night, if you can handle the vets. Thompson, RDA, Brunson, Johnson, Guida, Elkins… man those guys have on average been in Strikeforce/UFC like fifteen years and been pro like eighteen years.
It feels like Brunson has just sat there at #6 as the guy you got to beat to get the title shot or #1 contenders fight for like a decade. Romero beat him on the way to the title shot. Whittaker beat him two fights before his title shot. Adesanya beat him two fights before his title shot. Jacare beat him but never got his title shot sadly. Cannonier beat him to get his title shot.
Besides the two losses to Jacare, losing a split decision to to Kendal Grove in 2012 is the only time in 11 years in Strikeforce and the UFC that Brunson has lost to someone who was not a UFC champion or UFC title challenger.
I think someone said looking at everyone they sign, the average UFC career is like 1.5 years so it says something when you can compete at that level of those vets for fifteen years.
Anyway, not a bad pair of back to back cards at all.
