It's very reasonable to think that a fighter could get an eye poked and it doesn't take much force at all to affect someones vision for several minutes
It actually does take a decent amount of force to do something like that, especially when you are trying to do something as simple as grab a hat or get a high five.
Hell, fighters have gotten poked in the eye, with the full force of a punch from a professional fighter behind it, and continued fighting.

Watch some guy that has nasty long fingernails reaches for a hat and pokes the fighter in the eye causing the fight to be cancelled. It could happen.
