Who do you guys have....
Robbie lawler.
I know he's a vet, but I don't think anyone thought he would be a major title contender all this time
Thing is he was supposed to be man coming up after Hughes. Then he was sorta mediocre for while outside the ufc albeit in another division.
Anthony Pettis.
Dude shows up and performs at or above what hes billed at.
All of his fights are hugely impressive and exciting.
Theres a really cool special they did on his rise from the WEC days and before to the title fight between him and Benson Henderson for the LW championship. Really well done and really cool to watch. I'll look it up and post the link.
Heres the link to the documentary:

Check it out if you have time.
So far I'd say Ronda, Cain, Weidman, DC, and Jones. However once they start to decline the UG will start the "He/She was never that good" threads.
Benderson
Barao
Poirer
Gustaffson
Browne
Rockhold
Anderson
He came in at a time when the average fan would've never believed Rich could be dethroned
Johnny Hendricks looked really sloppy in his early fights. Now he's a UFC champion.
THP - AndersonThough he was great in ufc career. He really wasn't an anticipated acquisition.

Yep. He had a very average run in Pride. When he destroyed Leben, people started to pay attention.
BJ Penn. I remember him being hype up by Frank Shamrock.

Jones probably lived up to it the most though. I still remember everyone hoping on the bandwagon then the rua match got announced and everybody started hating.

This is not true. He was very anticipated, UFC at that time was pretty much only Americans, he was the first big name international guy they had signed in a long time.
Jds - a lot of hype when he came in messing fools up.
Went on to ko hw champ and defend his title.
