I certainly noticed the difference when I ran out of glucosamine. Omega-3s made a huge difference in the tightness in my elbows too. BCAAs and Glutamine seemed to help post workout, but I might be imagining that.
Btw, as many of you know there ARE pro hormone "supplements" that will make you piss hot because they are essentially oral steroids. So if an athlete took one of those (Superdrol or whatever the latest ones are), theres that... But every tested athlete should know better.
Twenty47 - Aminos, creatine and protein work. But when u think about all that shit is found in food. Some good stimulants out there that help with workouts also. Abe how big are you? Then we can determine your credibility on the subject. If u are so ripped "natural bodybuilder" that is 170 lbs your opinion is invalid IMO.I don't really need this board to determine my 'credibility', LOL. Anybody who doesn't recognize that food>supplements needs more common sense than credibility.
Also, if you have access to a nutritionist you shouldn't be supplementing much at all. The point is that all these pro fighters seem to be taking stuff willy-nilly, because it's the first thing they start in on as soon as they get busted. I'm just saying it's unneccessary and wondering who is monitoring all this. You mean somebody is making sure you make weight but nobody is monitoring what you add to your diet?
My size really has nil to do with that.
I weighed in at 231 this morning if you must know though. I'm 5'11 if that's the next question.
Forgot about creatine. Knew there was something else. I haven't been training since the fall, so I haven't needed to take my normal supplements.
By the way, I can't have the fish omega-3s because of a food allergy. I can take the algea based alternative, though. Makes a huge difference not only to inflamation after training hard, but also in my bad cholesterol.
Guys like GSP are wasting their time with shit like fish oil etc, why dont they fire their professional trainers and just look on forums geez!
Caught_clean - Guys like GSP are wasting their time with shit like fish oil etc, why dont they fire their professional trainers and just look on forums geez!Or pay a nutrionist instead of rolling the dice?
because your workouts are NOWHERE near as hard or as intense as what high level mma guys do.
try training 3-4 hours a day and see if you dont need at least...fish oil, joint suplements, extra protein, enrgy boosts etc..

Guys like GSP do have nutritionists and personal fucking chefs. These people supplement him stuff like fishoils etc. These people are wrong you are saying? I understand a lot of garbage supplements are worthless, but there are many that have been proven to have benefits.
Haulport - There is ZERO scientific evidence that vitamins let alone all this crap supplements do a damn thing. THere is actually a recent study indicating that vitamins cause damage.
You are 100% correct Mr. Fro...
Lol
wreckker - because your workouts are NOWHERE near as hard or as intense as what high level mma guys do.First, you don't know what I do so let's not start your post with a pissing contest.

Second, fish oil, glucosamine and protein aren't part of 'supplementing so much'. Those are basic needs to a diet that can be added as neccessary.
'Jacked' is not, as are these other random supplements that contain 'false positives' that these fighters are taking. And no, they don't NEED them. When you pay someone to monitor your food for weight and muscle then they know how many grams of protein you need or how much fish you are having. How many fish meals a week do you think you need before you don't need a pill?
Nutrionistst don't base diet plans around bottles of anything. That's why when you add 'pro' to your name you don't put shit in your body that you THINK you need.
Caught_clean -As I said multiple times, fish oil has nothing to do with false positives for anything, just like glucosamine or protein isn't on the naughty list.ABE FROMAN -Guys like GSP do have nutritionists and personal fucking chefs. None of these guys getting busted are talking about how their brand of fish oil made them come back positive. Also again, how many fish meals do you think you need in a week before you don't need any more? People just take shit because the bottle gives them a daily amount on the instructions. 90% of them aren't worried that they just ate fish an hour ago.

great prices from a guy who has doen his research
cheers
Well, the thread is a little bit all over now, but I agree with the premise that some people put too much faith in a pill bottle. I have a buddy who has a cabinet full of the crap he takes. When I am bored I stop in and have him explain them to me and the timing for a good snicker.
You seem to be drawing a connection between overusing supplements and popping on urinalyis' though Abe. I think you are being too generous to the cheaters there. No manufacturer is going to accidently drop a pricey steroid in their cheap sawdust pill sold at GNC.
For the record, I believe diet is one of the most important aspects of reaching any physical or athletic goal. I also take a multivitamin, glucosamine for the joints, a protein shake in between breakfast and lunch (low carb!), and NO Shotgun (creatine, protein, caffeine mix) before a circuit workout.
bknumber1 -Not at all.

The thread was meant to say that I didn't understand the premise of overusing supplements at all when you are a pro athlete. When you have someone counting out your food, helping you cut, helping you build muscle and everything else, I'm unsure how pros can even have the excuse of external supplements.
in an old fitch interview he said he didnt even take supplements for fear they are tainted with something to ruin his piss test

I did this for about 6 months. While in my mid 40s. Carrying a good 50 pounds overweight. Plus I have a food allergy that keeps me from taking fish products. I had also not started a weight training program.
It was insane how bad I felt all the time if I ran out of supplements.
I took some time off, healed up, then resumed at a more reasonable rate. I started lifting. Stayed religious on my diet and my supplements and my sleep. Never got hurt. Did that for another 6 months until life intervened and took me away from training.
It's much harder to try to keep up a good training regiment into your 40s without proper diet and supplements. It's much harder trying to train mma under those circumstances without proper diet and supplements. And rest.
I've never fought or seriously trained in such a way that would make me believe I could be competitive If I did choose to fight BUT the idea of taking ANYTHING to enhance my training or skills even if it was just to get the most out of myself seems so wrong. Yes even if it's just a simple protine supplement.
My mindset would be if I can't get to the top from my talents skill and hardwork then I shouldn't be there anyway
Kimo Lives - My mindset would be if I can't get to the top from my talents skill and hardwork then I shouldn't be there anywayProblem is the amount of hard work it takes to get and maintain that level of skill takes such a toll, physically, that competitors, who would agree in principle with you, take illegal supplements just to recover. Not to improve, or to get stronger, just to keep up with their training.
We saw a parallel in baseball. Who got busted for PEDs? It wasn't (largely) the big monsters jacking home runs. It was the pitchers. And they did it for recovery.

Gotcha and agree for the most part. My nutritionist is Teri Tom (same lady Manny Pacquiao uses) and she has me on the multi and glucosamine. She doesn't like that I use the NO Shotgun but I personally like it. She agrees with you and she is the best nutritionist I have ever met so you are in good company!
I definitely feel like I get a better workout if I take the supplement before a workout and especially if it is the third workout of the day. Could be the placebo effect I suppose but I think there is a positive difference. Great topic though Abe.
that thread title would make a good "why you no..." meme
