Fights in Utah tonight?

I suppose anyone going to this event is already at the event, but I wanted to see if anyone's got any live results.

Team Quest's Matt Horwich and Josh Berkman are both on the card. So if you were/are there, results please! Thanks.

ttt

dont remember all the results but matt won with a triangle i think. and burkman won a decision

Nice! Thanks Jeremy, I was hoping some results would be coming in about now.

BTW, you ought to get in on a FightSport card here in Oregon...Lindland and Couture recently legalized MMA here so we're just starting to have some pro cards. Horwich and Berkman both fight here regularly.

It was a great event with Horn and Alex Steibling reffing all the fights and Royce showing up as a special guest.

Horwich's triangle was kind of cool because his ankle wasn't even close to being under his knee and he was still able to pull down on the guys head hard enough to get the tap.

Berkman's fight was basically three rounds of him getting flashy looking, but basically harmless, pick-up slams and then not being able to do anything inside this Dru guy's guard. I don't think Berkman was able to pass even once, and his g'n'p inside the guard was pretty much ineffectual. Dru's guard wasn't very active, he pretty much kept a tight closed guard and blocked Berkman from doing anything.

One of the highlights of the night (besides Horn, Steibling, and Royce) was Justin Ellison's calling out Berkman after a slick armbar on a very strong opponent (I think an IFC vet). Ellison pondered into the mic whether Berkman had the "testicular fortitude" to face him.

After his own fight, Berkman (who fought around 199 or so I think) responded that he would only fight Ellison if Ellison (who fought 204) would lose 20 lbs or so. Berkman also mentioned that Ellison "had let himself go" (implying that he was overweight) and that Ellison could have a "F*** you."

The crowd really got into the drama, with the promoter (Rich Layton) getting in the ring at one point to opposed crowd cheers for Berkman and Ellison.

Too many other great fights to even mention.....and all this for $15-25.

"Justin Ellison's calling out Berkman after a slick armbar on a very strong opponent"

Was this Chilo Gonzales? He's another guy who usually fights here in Oregon...seems real tough but has been on a losing streak.

Yah, I think that's who it was.

Where was the event held? attendance? Overall did people seem to enjoy it?

Thanks

It was held at the Muay Thai Institute of Kunponli in SLC on Wilmington Avenue (just off 7th East and about a block south of 21st South.

People really seemed to enjoy it. The crowd was actually a really good MMA crowd. There was none of the usual booing at ground action that you sometimes see with american audiences. In fact, the crowd (at least around my position) seemed really well versed in submissions.

As far as attendence, they basically filled up the entire arena area at the Muay Thai Institute. I don't think I could very reliably estimate the number.

Edited for double post.

I seen Chilo fight in Denver, pretty slick guy,,,talented

bummer about Chilo- he is a hellova wrestler...i'm very surprised Burkman didn't pass that guys guard or just knock him TFO. no surprises about El Suave Horwich. Chilo is moving to Portland to train at Quest so i think it is safe to expect some game elevation in the near future!

does anyone has more results?

...jumps on treadmill to lose 20 lbs.....LOL

It was a real good event with some good fights and
a packed house. Justin Ellisons fight had the best
submission with a tight armlock, but that Chilo guy
was tough and looked in great shape he just got caught. The Burkman statement about Justin E needing
to lose 20 pounds is just his way of ducking the fight. Pretty lame excuse when you consider there was only a 5 pound difference. (of course when Berkmans in the middle of his cycle I bet he weighs a lot more)

What was the complete fight card? Did Mike Radnov fight?

lmao @ "of course when Berkmans in the middle of his cycle I bet he weighs a lot more"

i've never been impressed with him

My prediction for next Rich Layton promotion: Ellison will sub Burkman to the great dismay of throngs of GMA supporters.

Also, Stanseth is absolutely correct. Burkman's comments were just a means for him to duck Ellison.

Burkman also said "Ellison has to beat me, I don't have to beat him." [paraphrased]. This is ridiculous when you look at Burkman's record against Ellison's. Burkman hasn't fought anyone except Chilo Gonzalez(the same Chilo who Ellison armbarred that night), while Ellison has fought top notch opponents including Jeremy Horn, Falaniko Vitale, and Jason Medina.

mrcorrect you are a very wise man. (of course I always
say that about people who agree with me)
Boy talk about being deluded Burkman actually thinks he
is a big name UFC or Pride fighter. (its probably just the roids talking)
PS. I have met Burkman and he is an athleticly gifted and tough guy but basically just a bully and an asshole.
Sorry its late at night so I'm tired and tend to be very honest. But its true.

Yah man, I'm told that Stidham even used to joke on air about what a roider Burkman is.

If I was on steroids and my sponsor was willing to send me to Team Quest for a month...I would at least learn how to fake an attempt at guard passing. Burkman was so helpless in this regard that the guy next to me kept yelling "hey Coleman, don't pass the guard, it's okay...no one really wanted an exciting fight anyway."
