So, some of my friends told me I was a dumbass for still using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox or Google Chrome and that I should switch ASAP.
After switching to Firefox, I see how correct they were. It is way better than Internet Explorer.
However, there are some links now I go to where the content won't play and it says "A plugin is needed to display this content."
This wasn't happening on Internet Explorer, so I assume I need to download a "plugin" for Firefox?
First, what exactly is a "plugin" and which one do you guys think works best for Firefox, especially one that is not complicated to download or that will automatically change a bunch of things I don't want changed on my computer.
Thanks!
A plugin is kinda like an app that gets installed on top of the browser so certain content on the websites function correctly. Usually the error gives you a name of the plugin that's needed. Most likely it's a flash plugin
Usually that is the flash player plug-in that you are missing.
A plug-in is a mechanism for extending a browser to do other things. In this case play Flash video.
Once you are using Firefox you can use add-ons also. I highly recommend adblock and flashblock when using this website.
For starters, get Flash plugin here: https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Now switch from Firefox to Chrome.
Thanks guys, will download adobe flashplayer.
Thanks for the link, Striking. I am thinking of deselecting the: "Optional offer: Yes, install the free McAfee Security Scan Plus utility to check the status of my PC security. It will not modify existing antivirus program or PC settings." Or, is it a good idea to do keep this?
dcase, I've had people tell me there are more issues with Chrome than Firefox. Not your experience?
Thingading - Thanks guys, will download adobe flashplayer.

I think that security scan is just something extra firefox does for you. It doesn't hurt to let it scan for you. It's not going to install anything.
I've stuck with Firefox for years and have used Chrome also. Google Chrome seems to track you more and has less of a sense of personal information protection. Both work well enough and both use many of the same addons like adblock and flashblock.
When running firefox you can click on your Tools menu to get to addons. There you can search and see the sort of addons you can install into your browser. Same with Chrome.
I would not recommend a bazillion addons. Just the things you really like and need.
PM me if you ever have questions in case I miss this thread. I'll try to check back.

Thanks, Striking. I downloaded adobe flashplayer. It was real easy and now I'm able to view the content where before it said I needed a "plugin."
lol, you're one of the funnies mods. I hope he returns fire and you guys get into a friendly mod war.
In the meantime, disbeliever, do you have a recommendation on a free antivirus download that works best with Firefox?
Thanks dude.

Win 10's default browser is Edge.
Haven't upgraded yet but I hear it's much better than IE
Watch out when the year 2000 comes around. That y2k bug sounds nasty
