Florian's "Defensive Wrestling"

TampabayMMA -
jayhaas08 - Being a defensive wrestler is not good I wrestled for 12 years and was always taught the best defense is a good offense <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Wrestling has rules against passivity, so what wrestling considers stalling tactics can work as defensive wrestling in mma.

That and wrestling and MMA are somewhat different.

Thunderlips The Ultimate Male - The reality is that Florian did not come from a wrestling base and only a very small percentage on non-wrestlers will be able to turn the tables on a wrestler of that caliber in MMA.

this

Well GSP has often said he likes to didctate the fight and the flow, now he is a phenomanal MMM wrestler and his striking is pretty good..

But in essence GSP does not think defensively at all but offensively...

disbeliever - Kenny has good BJJ. I was surprised we did not see any activity on the bottom from him. It's not like Gray was lighting him up and not giving him any time.

I was thinking this the whole fight!!!

PeteGuirguess - better takedowns mean better striking in MMA. Offensive wrestling makes striking more effective. Unpredictability is what makes GSP a great MMA fighter. Why should he concede Maynard the luxury of digging his feet in and not worrying about the takedown.

exactly, in this situation it gave his oppnent a much greater advantage than if he would have kept trying and failed.
