Focus for running?

I'm in a weird place, I need to imrpove my cardio but don't have enough to do different programs. To get a base cardio I am running on a treadmill untill I can get enough cardio to run intervals and what not. My treadmill has awesome "performance" programs but I can't complete any of them.

So my question is how do you guys who run more then a mile do it? I get super bored after 5-6 minutes and then every minute seems like an hour.

I run and fast pace walk the beach for cardio. I keep looking at the wimminz in bathing suits to keep going.

No beach,in Oregon...Treadmill life for another 3 months at least

 Ouch!

put a picture of a hot chick on front of treadmill. lol

Just Do It!

and fyi, intervals are going to be better used to help you develop your conditioning. Not the other way around.

For example: steady run as long as you can, then start doing intervals of running and walking (recovery). Now Do It!

Trust SUB, I heard he may know a little on this subject matter.

I put a glass of Rum & Coke in front of the treadmill when I'm @ the gym.

make sure to at least up the incline on 1. that supposedly simulates running outside (no hills).

when i'm trying to get my cardio up after a long break, i will normally just pick a distance that i'm comfortable w/ and pace it real slow for the first week. then try to shave a minute or two off it. at that point, i'll up my distance at that faster speed until i'm satisfied.

i suck at running, but when doing treadmill, i normally work my way to 2 miles. warm up 5min at 5.0, then next 5min at 6, up it to 9.5 for 1 min, then back to 6 for 5, then 9.5 and back to 6 until 2 miles are done. or so...

Thanks for the advice. So intervals increase cardio faster then long runs.. I DEFINETLY WILL GIVE THAT A TRY FOR MY NIGHT CARDIO

I can do a mile at 6.5 comfortably but as soon as it hits the mile mark I start to fall apart. I tried going to 7.0 to see if it was mental but then I crapped out at a little before a mile and had to really push just to finish a mile so that told me it was physical lol..

I'll give the up the 9.5 for a minute and back down for 5 etc. a try next week.

I can't put a picture of a hot anything in front of the treamill because the wife would boot me out of the house. For inspiration I watch jiu jitsu videos while I run. This was my warm up video for some time because for some weird reason I like the music even though I don't know what there singing about.

If you live close to campus, my suggestion would be to run there.

You'll be surprised how it will definitely improve your perfomance as well as demeanor and motivation. Ha!

good music. it reminds me of clubbing.

meditate.

i'm in my late 30's and a weekend warrior is more active than me. so when i go run, it takes awhile for my muscles and joints to warm up. the beginning has a bit of pain and to get through the aches, i focus on my breathing. as long as it takes my body to get used to the running is as long as it takes for me to get into a meditative state. when my mind is there, my mind can run as long as my body goes.

im going to try that ^^^
