"I got jumped on monday night by two guys. While defending myself a third ran up from behind and stabbed me twice in the upper body from behind."
That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Out of curiosity though, you didn't say that he stabbed you in the back, but the "upper body from behind". Did you get stabbed somewhere unusual or was that just the way that you worded it?
I didn't even see him, but he came from behind where I could not see him coming, and must have swung hard, I got stabbed five ribs up, just outside my left side of my lung, and one 2 inches below my heart...so I think he was making a hooking motion from behind. What a crappy thing to have happen though..
For a BJJ player, the problem with pulling guard in a street fight is that it instantly creates a gravitational field so powerful, every hypordermic needle, stick, branch, cactus, glass shard, razor blade, acid pool, lava pit and street thug within a 5 miles radius cannot escape its pull.
The bjj player is instantly overwhelmed, beat down, cut, burned, slashed and stabbed to death in seconds.
Dats da truth
"If you had pulled guard you would have seen the guy coming behind you because you have a different angle of vision when on your back. Plus you would have been able to use the guy in your guard as a shield and avoided being stabbed. Then kicked the guy in your guard off you into the knife wielder and jump to your feet to either attack or run away."
If I pulled gaurd on one guy, the second would have started kicking me in the head, and the third would have ran up and stabbed me while I was all "rocked", it was a no win situation unless your last name is Rutten.so if somebody can show me how to pull gaurd on two guys at the same time I am willing to learn, but for the time being I am just gonna stay away from any confrontations as much as possible.
How come you never hear the following story??
So I got into a fight the other night, pulled guard, and my friends kicked the shit out of the guy.
Why is it that 101% of BJJ guys are always out numbered?
rolls eyes
Fact is, if you are against multiple opponents and they want to take you down, you have no chance. A group tackle is not stoppable. Hows striking gonna help you then? Nothing can help you.
I pull guard even when it's not a street fight.
I've found this really freaks people out at Steak n' Shake.
Ive had friends ask me to prove that BJJ works.
Going against an untrained guy is pretty easy.
I let them put on some small gloves, and tell them I wont strike at all and still take them out.
Pulling guard and sweeping 1-2 seconds later and taking mount is trivial.
I see no reason why this wouldnt work in a street fight.
That said, I prefer the top game and get the takedown, but if some untrained fool puts me on my back in a street fight, he will be on the bottom a few seconds later unless he is purple belt or above, or a strong wrestler.
LOL @ roll solo like highlanders
Well I wish I knew alot of things, all of this happened in about 50 seconds. When it is 3 on one, your chances of winning are slim to none, I was able to stay on my feet and defend myself, I survived, not sure what would have occured if I had gone to the ground, I am no fighter, just a fan, I don't pretend to train or act like a tuff guy, wrong place at the wrong time is all, no matter what everyone thinks I am sure things would have turned for the worse for me if I had been taken off my feet. they're intent was to stab me, not beat me up, they ran as soon as I got stabbed. If anyone goes to the ground I wish you the best and hope it all works out for you.
Your percentage of cracking the back of your head open is very high
and the percentage of his friend running up and kicking you in the
head is also very high, pulling guard in the street is a pretty stupid
idea, aside from the takedowns and some top positions like knee on
stomach (which is very street effective) BJJ all around is not as street
lethal as people think it is.
Grabbing a handfull of hair and smashing someone's head against a hard surface can be really effective. By pulling guard you are putting yourself in a position vunerable to this right away.
Like anything else, depends on your skill and who you are fighting.
If you're a blue belt or above in BJJ, and it's a one on one fight, I see no reason why you can't pull guard and guilotine him in under 10 seconds.
If I'm close enough to pull guard, well, then I'm close enough to kick him square in the noots. That's how I roll. THEN I would pull guard and try out a gogoplata on the guy. People would be telling the story for years to come.
^^^^ If you are a blue or above in BJJ you should be able to guillotine
him standing, why put yourself in a vulnerable position for no reason?
What if the guy has a knife? If the guy slips out a small blade or even a 4 inch folder, you will most likely get fucked up quickly! By the time you know it's there, it'll be too late.
You can't really come up with some kind of percentage for this scenario cause there are tons of different things that can occur. The guy may be armed or he may not. He may have friends, you may have friends or be armed.
There are just too many variable in this situation. Overall though, if you factor in the pro's and con's of each situation, the chances are better if you aren't on the bottom IMO.
my buddy guillotined a dude in a street fight, pulled guard and everything
Pulling guard in a street fight is ridiculous IMO.
"Pulling guard in a street fight is ridiculous IMO."
Really? What if someone puts you on your back?
"so if somebody can show me how to pull gaurd on two guys at the same time I am willing to learn" ----- Fkn hilarious - well done
43 %... the answer is exactly 43 %
