Louie Miller's name was mentioned as being an influnce in the Gene Lebell thread. Is this the same Louie Miller that later promoted professional wrestling in northern Cailifornia? Frankie Cain worked that territory as the Great Mephisto in the 70's.
The only Lou Miller I know is the promoter.
Tangentially, I asked Gene LeBell about Frank and he didn't know him (even when I mentioned "The Great Mephisto"). *shrug
Louie Miller the wrestler and Louie Miller the promoter were indeed one and the same.
I met Louie several times years ago. I knew he had been a circus strongman in his younger years. I did not know he was trained in catch. I am not that surprised however. Colorful character.
that's neat dude. tell us about him. I had wondered that myself
I met Louie as a youngster. He used to promote pro wrestling at the Civic Auditorium in Stockton, California back in the seventies. I was pretty much a regular and he would always acknowledge my presence. He was quick to smile. He was not a very large man infact in his later years he was dwarfed by most of the workers. He was probably larger in his younger years as his suits always seemed to be a size or two to large for him. I once saw Louie shove people out of the way to get his hands on an unruly fan. Even at his advanced age Louie took this guy, that was ATLEAST thirty years his junior and probably sixty lbs. heavier, down and then jerked him up and escorted him out of the building single handedly. I also had the pleasure of watching that little old man turn into a wolverine on a couple other occasions. He was very antimated when excited. I remember him as a very nice elderly man that was absolutley fearless. I have no doubt Louie Miller was a handful in his prime.
A Very interestling story, mmajitsu!
