TULSA, Okla. – Dale “Apollo” Cook’s Xtreme Fight Night returns to the The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Friday, August 26. The fight card will showcase boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts. All fights are contested in a traditional ring inside the plush venue.
Special guests in the past have included boxing icon “Sugar” Ray Leonard, boxing legend “Irish” Micky Ward and MMA pioneer Ken Shamrock. Joining the festivities this time will be one of Tulsa’s own, Bill Goldberg. Goldberg’s meteoric rise to the top of the WCW took wrestling to the next level. He has parlayed the success into a television career as well as commentating for mixed martial arts promotions. He will hold a meet-and-greet prior to the fights.
The stacked fight card is headlined by five championship bouts.
A welterweight championship MMA fight features reigning XFL 170-pound champion Codale “Crunchtime” Ford battling Jesse Chaffin. Both fighters are coming off impressive wins at Xtreme Fight Night 3 and looking to electrify the crowd in their home state.
The name Thomas “Thunderkick” Longacre is synonymous with the Tulsa fight scene. He embodies the fighting spirit and always brings his “A” game. Boring is not in his vocabulary. He takes on UFC veteran and wily competitor Anthony “Mad Dog” Macias in a highly-anticipated kickboxing slugfest.
Returning to action is up-and-comer Trey Houston. The 185-pound XFL champion and former TU rugby star looks to add to his undefeated MMA record. His opponent, Wayne Cole, is a seasoned veteran and former XFL light heavyweight champion. The collegiate wrestling standout and former IFL star is dropping down to 185 pounds and should provide Houston a solid test in his comeback fight.
In a rematch of a controversial kickboxing bout, heavyweight sluggers Randy “Boom Boom” Blake and Chris “Triple Threat” Bell will settle the score in the ring. Blake is an undefeated kickboxing champion and popular Apollo’s Martial Arts instructor. Bell is looking to avenge a split-decision loss to the champ last year.
Rounding out the championship fights is quite possibly the most anticipated. XFL 155-pound champion J.C. Cottrell defends his belt against Tulsa Union teacher and popular local fighter Josh “The Platypus” Pulsifer. The heat has been building between the Tulsa and OKC fighters. Turnpike pride is up for grabs and the lines have been drawn in the sand.
The 12-bout fight card includes a heavyweight boxing showdown between rising Native American pugilist John Wesley Nofire and former kickboxing champion Aaron “Iron Jaw” Winterlee. Also on the card are local favorites Levi Avera, Andrew Todhunter, Dylan Smith, Jarret Rouse, Logan Cunningham, Bogey Blunt, Aaron Kelle and Brett Middaugh.
The Xtreme action takes place at Xtreme Fight Night 4, Friday, August 26 in The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. Get your tickets today by visiting HardRockCasinoTulsa.com or by calling 918-627-7070. Doors open at 6:30. Pre-fights start at 7pm and the main card begins at 8pm.
If the UFC or MMA has piqued your interest in the past, if you are on the fence about the value of combat sports in the Tulsa area, if you have thought about attending, covering or getting involved with the local fight scene in the past; this is the event for you. Do not be the last media entity to jump on board the fastest growing sport in the world.
