Forrest Griffin Already Back In The Gym

"If the worst thing that happens to Gina (Carano) or Forrest (Griffin) is they lose a fight, they're doing pretty damn good."

Such are the words of the namesake of Carano and Griffin's training gym, Xtreme Couture, former UFC champion Randy Couture.

"It's all part of the process. I don't think there's anything negative there," said Couture during a media call on Tuesday to promotion his upcoming fight at UFC 102 with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

"Obviously, Forrest was very emotional in the cage when he lost to Anderson (Silva), but I think that's because he works so damn hard, and like everybody, we all hate to lose. He's been back in the gym already. I saw him (Monday) here and he's back to training."

With a professional record of 16-9, Couture has been through the ups and downs of mixed martial arts many times. It all comes with the territory if you want to be a professional athlete, he says.

"I don't necessarily see that as a negative. It's all part of the learning and growing process," Couture pontificated.

"The same thing for Gina. Obviously she was a little embarrassed by the outcome (in losing to Cris Cyborg), but overall she did a great job in that fight. She had some opportunities to win and she did some good things. She did some things we trained to do.

"I think the adversity of losing that fight is going to be very, very important for her development as a fighter.

"I know from my own experience, the fights that I've lost were very important to me, and if I could go back and change them, I don't think I would. I think I learned more and became a better person and a better athlete for having experienced those things.

"And I know Gina and Forrest are both in that same boat."

The orgs need to start docking pay for guys/girls that run away and hide postfight, that's part of the show and it's unprofessional.

Go die.

Forrest is the CO MAIN EVENT, a huge part of the show's promotion was around him. He gets beat, runs away, bails on the post fight press conference, and has no comment about the fight?

Lebron ran and hid after the Cavs lost in the NBA Playoffs and he got absolutely killed in the media.

I think that you should get all of your failures out of the way in the gym.. fail 1000 times in the gym, you will win in competition. For some reason Forrest and Gina didn't look like they took steps forward. Tyson Griffin looked like he has stayed in the same spot as a fighter as well. I don't want to attack Xtreme couture, but I feel like the attitude should change a little bit. I agree that losses are a learning experience, but you don't have to lose in competition if you practice the right way. Fuel for discussion

He's paid to fight not crack jokes at the post fight after a devestating loss

His camp needs to make him take a break.

If Frank reads this he will be pissed, but IMO there are indicators that Forrest MAY be overtrained.

Gina I think was scared. And there is no problem with that. If she was, then next time it will be more under control and she will do better.

And rightly so. Both fighters (more Forrest really) have been ridiculed on here, which is what you'd expect. But piss off with fining them - they're paid to fight and that's what they did

Here's the thing...you threaten them with the fine, and this kind of amateur behavior stops.

Fined for what? He's paid to fight. Shut the fuck up.

I haven't read any fighter contracts, so I really don't know for sure, but my guess is Forrest (and all fighters) are paid to FIGHT, not to do interviews.  I'd be curious to hear from a legit green namer or manager if there is some sort of rider written into a contract that stipulates a "must interview".

Lebron is paid to play basketball, skip your postfight obligations, and it costs you.

No, they need to pay guys/girls for hanging around to talk the media.  They are paid to fight, not to shill for their company.  They do a lot of free prefight interviews, etc.  It's absurd to expect them to stick around after losing a fight.

Shut up. Who gives a shit about basketball.

Griffin is paid to fight, he fought. End of discussion. When he gets paid to give a post-fight interview after being humiliated, then we'll talk. Until then, there is no legal ground for which he can be fined.

In closing, fuck off.

Lebron doesn't get the shit beat out of him in the game either.  Are you really trying to compare basketball to MMA?

It's absurd to expect a Forrest or a Gina, who are paid 6 figures to fight, to stick around and give a postfight interview or attend the postfight presser? Really?

All the pro sports leagues do it, the loser in boxing main events gives a post fight interview (as long as is is ok medically to do so), I don't see why this is seen as acceptable.

Who gives a shit about basketball? It's more popular than MMA.

There are definitely legal grounds where they can be fined, the second that the UFC decides they've had enough of guys bailing postfight (not that it's a widespread issue, but it's happened twice in primetime fights in the last 2 weeks) and decide to put it into the contract.

Grow up with the vulgarity, we can be on opposite sides of a discussion without that crap, are you 10?

Losing a fight is possibly one of the most humiliating things that can happen to someone, you're going to have to excuse them if they aren't feeling social.

ACEhole -  depending on the particular contracts, there are many instances where a fighter is required to do post fight interviews, appearences, and other things of the sort. it would not be an 'out of the norm' thing at all.

I'm just saying that when an org promotes the shit out of you like the UFC has Forrest or Strikeforce has Gina, and you are physically able to give a postfight interview and sit through the press conference, you should do so.

Maybe in America. Not here. It's irrelevant.

So there is no legal grounds? Fine, we're done. Forrest cannot and should not be fined. End of discussion. Your inability to understand the mindframe of someone who's just suffered a loss in a fight, and why that would affect their ability to be sociable is quite staggering.

Fair enough.
