Trench Tech Purebred Saipan co-instructor Cuki Alvarez said that the contingent from American Top Team was impressed with Frank “The Crank” Camacho's fighting skills.
Alvarez said the training team of Ultimate Fighting Championships veteran Luigi Fioravanti talked to him and invited Camacho to train with him at American Top Team Gym in Florida.
“They were impressed with the way Frank [Camacho] fights and told me he is UFC material. That is good feedback. They are recruiting Frank and will help him train in Florida,” said Alvarez.
“This is good news for us and for Frank as he moves one step closer to making it big time. We are not against him training in other gyms. If he gets to learn new forms of martial arts and fighting skills it would also benefit the CNMI.
“He could return here and teach us what he has learned for us to also improve at a new level. Frank is willing to train with them,” said Alvarez.
Camacho suffered his first loss of his young MMA career when he was beaten by Fioravanti via a second-round technical knockout in “PXC 12: Settling the Score” last July 13.
“We treat that loss positively. Frank has learned a lot from his fight against Luigi [Fioravanti]. According to him, Luigi is a smart fighter. Frank said Luigi was aggressive and at the same time relaxed,” said Alvarez.
Camacho said he felt Fioravanti was a little loose when they tried to grapple but every time he made a move and attacked his opponent's defense that was the time that his foe countered and showed his strength.
Fioravanti could not match up with Camacho while standing up and that was why he took him down taking the match on the ground. “He realized Frank was winning so he took him down and rained Frank with the staples move that opened a cut in Frank's right eyebrow,” said Alvarez.
Camacho received several stitches from the cut and is now recovering. He has not been training for a while, waiting for the wound to fully heal before he steps back inside the octagon.
Camacho dropped to 11-1, while the 26-year-old Fioravanti, a native of St. Petersburg, Florida, but based in Orlando, improved to 12-3 with the win.
Camacho is scheduled to leave in September to pursue a college degree in Maryland. He, however, will head to the Philippines in November to defend his Universal Reality Combat Championships lightweight belt in the Philippines.
