I am interested in both shamrock dvd sets that he offers, has anyone seen them? Are they worth while in terms of self defense?
Thanks

Asked this question before and got no answer. Not many people seem to have bought them. Bias against non-BJJ guys maybe?

I've seen one...not really that great. I like Frank Shamrock though. I suggest since u stated u are a striker...it's prob. better to find a descent boxing or muy thai school. But the best standup fighting dvds are by RODNEY KING of the SBG.
Frank shows good tech. on this dvds I have them and both sets are real good.
I would like to think of myself as a striker, with some boxing experience. But I would like to know more basics of ground game like getting out of the mount, some basic submissions. How well does frank go over this type of thing?

I have his ground control, home workout & keys to victory tapes.
I like them. Frank is a natural instructor and it makes for great tapes.

I agree, Frank has the charisma and mike skills down.
The things I am looking for are in a previous post on this thread, can either of you tell me if these have what I am looking for.

First, you gotta know which set you're talking about.
As far as i can tell, Frank has made three instructional sets. i read the ads in Grappling mag. :)
set 1. Unique Publications: ground control, home workout & keys to victory
set 2. Century Vision 1: power striking, avoid the takedown, escape from ground, instant submissions, clinch fighting, the fight clinic
set 3. Century Vision 2: guaranteed submission combinations, give up your back and win, advanced control and submissions, submission fighting training games.
i have seen sets 1 and 2.
allthough i think that frank is a good teacher, i did feel like spoke to me like i was retarded. i got the whole bad car salesman vibe from him.
as for the techniques themselves, i was not overly impressed with his striking tapes, or his takedowns. they were solid and basic. But if that's what you want, you're better off buying a proper striking of wrestling tape (rob kaman, or darrel gholar come to mind)
his submission tapes were cool. Frank has that outside-of-the-bjj-box approach with makes for some interesting variation of subs. i was not impressed with his positioning, he relies too much on his own athleticism and speed to get himself out of dangerous situations. while this works for Frank S. it might not work for us mere mortals.
my main problem with these two sets were that the moves were shown in isolation. i'd much rather see moves chained together so you can see the flow of things.
that's why i'm interested in the third set, which seem to stress combinations a lot more. i haven't seen that one.
hope this helps.
if you want a SOLID ground positioning tape, for MMA, i strongly suggest you watch Mario Sperry's Vale Tudo series. all his moves are shown in connection.
thanks for the info
I personally like the home workout.
As ReversalofDan pointed out, on the techinque tapes he often presents things as if the audience are total beginners.
So, if you start from the scratch these tapes would get you started, even though they are somewhat outdated.
Haven't seen the set number 3, btw.
I'm a big Frank Shamrock fan by the way. the way he always seems to be able to pull out a win is awesome.
i just wish he'd shown more of his fight strategy.
on tape set 2, he calls the butterfly guard the turtle position. i thought that was funny, kind of like a turtle laying on it's back...
Great info guys, thanks
