Just to recap, we got some complains about what people considered to
be spam clogging the forum, basically repetitive messages, typically
ANNOYINGLY IN ALL CAPS, ttt'd all the time.
Maximum Fighting, Rick's stuff, and Rev MMA were mentioned the
most.
So, to help clear things out, we're trying to limit promotional threads to
1 (one) per main page listing. To help start this off, I've been freezing
repetitive threads. (To Rick's credit, he contacted me to find out how
best to post his stuff without disturbing non-interested users, and Rev
quickly established a single thread -- Maximum Fighting... there's
always hope!)
Since this needs to be fair to work, I've also frozen not-quite-so-loud
but also repetitive threads for other promotions/events/etc.
If anyone wants to discuss this, pro or con, please do. It's your forum.
I AM A FOLLOWER, WHERE JOE CANADA LEADS, I FOLLOW,
Well at least to go somewhere warmer then OTTAWA!!
Seriously though, good idea, 15 threads advertising an event is a bit much. Even though I go to as many events as I can get to in the Ottawa/Montreal area, and I really like that the promoters can let us know about the events on this forum.
The thing is, it becomes noise. ALL CAPS get noticed for a moment, then
everyone is doing it and it becomes a sea of annoyance. And then the
posters think they need another thread for each update or announcement, and TTTing everyone all the time, it just turns people off
to such an extent they stop reading and discussing, which is the point of s
forum anyway.
So, ONE THREAD per promotion/store/commercial venture/etc. and add
news to it, so those interested can find it and those not don't get sick of
it.
AND THANKS JOE!, YOU ANTIDISSESTABLISHMENTARIAN, YOU!
It's to bad we couldn't have an advertiseing forum for Canadian mma seperate to this one.Vendors could be post on this as well as Seminars. Then limit promotions and upcomeing tournaments on this forum to one thread.
Just a suggestion.
I think u will find some people just being friends or the same people under different screen names will just start threads for the same purpose as the original threads.
What if we discuss spamming and all caps with the moderators on this thread, BUT THEN, we want to discuss the results of that discussion with fellow members and/or other moderators on another thread? You would require some sort of "frozen thread thread thread", which is similar to the "frozen thread thread", and therefore 'spamming'. We're through the looking glass here people....
Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider it prudent to call the moderator of a board you use for free advertising an "idiot". This is very inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour. Perhaps an "idiot" is someone who is incapable of considering the negative consequences of impulsive actions?
Think of it this way, MMA.tv is nice enough to set up a free coffee shop
for everyone to sit around and talk MMA and BJJ, etc.
They're even cool enough to let some promotors and merchants put up
flyers to help them get some publicity.
But, rather than being grateful and respectful, one of the local
promoters starts slapping up dozens of giant, visually noisy posters,
and layer upon layer of poster on top of them, over the walls, over the
patrons, everywhere.
And when some of the volunteer staff tidies up, and asks them nicely
to turn it down and keep it to a single flyer at a time, they're ignored,
insulted, and otherwise given every indication that the over-entitled,
under-appreciative, self-centered, self-involved promotors really
don't care about the forum, or the forum members who have
complained, but just want to do what they want, when they want, even
if it alienates their own intended audience.
Well, sorry, that's just not the way we play cricket.
So, respect the forum, respect the other members, and respect
yourselves to have a little dignity and play by the rules.
