It sounds like its gonna be a K1 GP style tournament in the same night between boxers with boxing rules obviously.
It's a boxing tournament. I know they couldn't be doing old-school nhb in New York. Made no sense.

It makes no sense to me. Why have boxers, who don't train MMA, fight in with MMA rules? It doesn't make any sense to me.
Whoever wrote that peice did a really bad job because what they meant to say was that it was a boxing rules tournament (obviously) in a UFC style tournament setting. But the article doesn't make that clear at all, unfortunately.

Byrd, Peter, Bell, and Demitrenko belong there. Scrap Briggs, Fields, and Cunningham. Those guys don't belong in a field of top heavyweights competing for $5 million. Guys like Brewster, Brock, Chagaev, and Toney need to be in this tournament. Then it really would be worth seeing.
