G Sot, Dana must have something against him...

Seriously, he gets Dennis Siver? WTF

He's not ready for the top tier guys.

Soto couldn't handle Joe Lauzon until he gassed. Giving him somebody top 5 is suicide at this point. However, I like Penn/Soto.

r u guys serious? sot takes that fight to the ground and subs siver with out a whole lot of trouble.

It'll at least be an easy payday and easy win for George at home.

Douche - Uh.. You do know Edgar is fighting Maynard and then they'll have UFC vs. WEC early summer, right?

You want Sot to sit around for 9 months waiting for the winner of WEC vs. UFC LW match?

He needs someone top 5, not top 20

Let him get the loser of either the UFC or WEC LW title fight.

What's dumb about this also is he doesn't have to fight in Sydney. They need to give him a better quality opponent instead of rushing him to get him on this card. It's a slap in his face if you think about it.

Better choice

But

Will the loser of that match be ready to fight Sot 6 weeks later in Sydney?

Henderson vs. Pettis is nine weeks apart from the UFC event in Sydney. I say if the loser comes out of it injury free that should be the fight. All I know is that George needs a huge step up in competition, and either of those fighters would be a big test for him.

This is more of a fight to make sure the Sydney fans leave the arena happy. It will be exciting and further flame George's momentum while Edgar deals with a few other contenders higher on the food chain.

And let's not forget: It's also a thank you to Siver, who provided the only great match on the Germany card. Dana said Siver deserved a real test and he's getting it.

There's just no top guys available for Sots to fight.

-Sherk is injured according to Diego Sanchez, who will remain at 170 unless a big fight such as Sherk is available at 155.

-Jim Miller is fighting Charles Oliveira in 3 weeks.

-Edgar vs. Maynard and Gomi vs. Guida are happening in January, which leads any of the four highly unlikely less than 2 months later.

-Florian and Dunham are fighting in late January, which leaves even less of a turnaround for either guy to fight Sots.

If George wasn't so insistent on fighting in Australia, he could wait it out for a better opponent. But he wants to fight in on that card, so he's getting who ever is available.

 Should have done Sherk IMO

If Junie Browning had Sotiropoulos's record, he would have fought for the belt.

Soto vs Cowboy would be pretty fun

It's horseshit, really how many guys does he have to beat to get a shot.. remember he just worked Lauzon who like an 18 year old hooker

The problem is that he WANTS to fight in Australia, and nobody else is available.

Plus, it's not like he has beaten a whole lot of contenders. Lauzon and Pellegrino are solid wins, but his best win is Joe Stevenson, who looked awful in his title shot against BJ and even worse in a title eliminator against Florian.

If it weren't for the WEC merger and Sots' insistence on fighting in Australia, he likely would have been declared the number one contender after tonight.

except everyone was already scheduled.

on the contrary...looks like they are building up a quality contender by putting the guys on win streaks against each other....the best man that wins gets a deserved title shot.

guess you missed the first round where "sots" didn't look so good... you are correct on the sexond round though

he didnt look good?

it was hardly like he took a beating.

He didnt quite have his timing at the start of the fight and was on the wrong end of a couple of exchanges, then started to get it right and landed a couple.

Got to mount at the end of the round and only lost it coz he went for the armbar to finish.

If he had been more inclined he could have opened up some good GnP instead and had a crack at stealing the round.

I gave Lauzon the first round, but lets not pretend that Sots was getting destoyed,
