They're finally doing folks, the super heavyweight division we've been waiting on!

Are you sure it's not at a catch weight of 285? Phone Post 3.0

Battle of the buffets

Good fight. Good chance for both guys to show where they belong. Good chance for both guys to make weight.

Has their ever been a fight where both guys missed weight? Phone Post 3.0

Christ they have ruined Gastelum. He was the most promising prospect to come out of TUF in years, and before he even turns 24 years old they've given him a ridiculous murderer's row of opponents.

Kelvin is coming off a loss to Magny, why is he fighting the #3 or #4 guy in the whole division?

This is not how you build a prospect, by throwing him in with elite fighters in his early 20s and continuing to do so even if he loses. This is how you turn a promising youngster into a permanent B-lister.

They did the same thing with Charles Oliveria and his career has been disappointing too. The only guy who's been pushed this hard this young and been successful is Jon Jones, who is arguably the greatest fighter of all time.

I'd prefer to see good fighters fight good fighters. We don't want to turn MMA into boxing. Phone Post 3.0

Great fight.

Why bother having a weight class for this fight?

I'm not saying you put him against bums. I'm saying you build him up gradually. Last year, he was still undefeated but had barely squeaked by Ricky Story and his biggest win was a faded Ellenberger. Why throw him in with a top 5 guy in Woodley? He had just turned 23 years old, and he hadn't destroyed everyone they'd put him in front of like Jones did. Why not a Dong Hyun Kim, a Matt Brown, a Tarec Saffiedine?

And now, coming off a loss to Magny, they throw him in with Hendricks? Makes no sense at all. Very good chance he goes from a red hot 10-0 prospect to an 11-3 also-ran inside a year and a half.

I get what you're saying but I get the feeling they want to really push him. Maybe because TUF has been a letdown the last couple seasons? Trying to push homegrown stars? Phone Post 3.0

I'm sure that's what they have in mind but their impatience is backfiring, like it did with Oliveria.

yawn

hendofanforlife - tomato can, both of his losses to top 5 fighters were split decisions that could have gone the other way. youre acting like he got demolished. maybe they keep putting him in cause he is having tons of success that his W-L record dont tell the whole story of.

I'm not acting like he got demolished at all. I'm saying there's no reason to keep giving him such tough matchups when he's not running through everyone like Jones did. Again, he is 23 years old. Most fighters don't peak until their late 20s. Why are they acting like it's now or never for him?

And seriously, there's no way he beat Woodley or Magny. Maybe you could argue those fights should have been draws, but no way did Kelvin win. And I thought he lost to Story, too.
