gen. questions from a noob

hello. i am attempting to develop a workout routine. partly to look
good and partly because i do want some functional strength. my
boyfriend is into MMA, does submission wrestling and kickboxing, and
has given me a couple kickboxing lessons. unfortuantely, i am now
overseas and while i like shadow boxing, i can only do a few punches
with any confidence, and my room isn't big enough for thai kicks. i do
push-ups (full ones, not half girly ones. even tho i am a girl), crunches,
boot-straps, dips and squats. i try to run as well, but the weather here
doesn't always agree, hence the shadow boxing in my room, however
limited my knowledge, it still gets the heart-rate up.

my questions: should i add anything else? am i hitting all the muscle
groups i should be? is there a way i could be doing push-up wrong
that's hurting my lower back? (because it hurts. not a muscle soreness
either. or is it something else i'm doing wrong?) any other adivce
would be appreciated.

thank you.

Do you keep your back straight? Check out the pic on this page:

Check out Scrapper's site, he has several workouts that you can do at
home.
