Gf wants me to move to Hawaii

Hey guys, my gf wants me to move to Hawaii and I just want to knows if you guys could give me a little insight on how it's like living out there. We are both 20 and are going to move in with her brother in Kona. Is it expensive? Easy to find a job? Stuff like that. Would really appreciate it. Phone Post

expensive.

the both of you will most likely end up doing menial jobs.

you may feel hostility from the locals.

why does she want to move to Hawaii?

you should slap her around for suggesting a such a stupid thing.

Well she used to live there in for 5 years in her early teens and visits every once in awhile and just wants to go back but thank you for the information very useful. Phone Post

kona's economy is BAD. probably one of the worst places to try and start up at 20 in hawaii. but i'm all for trying things spontaneously and persevering!

if we had a picture of your girlfriend we might be able to better assist you...

frunder makes a valid arguement

She might have an Ex there or some guy she "Made friends with". Move there if YOU want to move there, if not let her move there and find yourself a new gf. Phone Post

A lot of Big Island people I meet here are from Kona. They moved away from home for a reason I'm sure.
Also if you or your GF are in the Pharmaceutical field, that market is over saturated on B.I. Phone Post

Thanks guys I'll see what goes down. I would post pic but I dont know how.:( Phone Post

17 vote downs? lol.

Jobs been hard to come by on the big island. Especially in Kona. Alot of small business are closing up shop. The vog sucks as well when the kona winds are blowing, you can actulally taste it. Seems like Oahu's job markets been better than the big island from my perspective. Good luck. Phone Post

Hawaii is the most expensive place you will probably ever live. With jobs that pay the least. At 20, I'm not sure what kind of educational background you have or training. best thing to do is join the Kona Police Department or some other job with the State or Feds. All other jobs come and go.

If you got asthma that volcano (vog) is going to mess you up.

I don't know if you lived with your girlfriend for a long time or not and who you guys going to live with but just think STRESS either way. If you move in with her family you will probably want to get the fuck out. if you and her never lived together and worked out all the shit that comes with moving in together, you guys are going to break up. Best thing to do is work opposite of the time she works so that you get the tv and bed to yourself and spend your days off together.

If everything is all good with all of the above, apply for a job before you come here because it takes a year or so to find something that is decent. but here are some thoughts:

Best of luck, its beautiful but expensive.

Damn, jjmtg, helpful as a mu'fucka.

OP - Try looking at jobs on Oahu, where you'll have better prospects and be less of a haole. I know you plan on staying with her brother, but that will get old quick for all involved. Plus things are gonna get weird after the first time he hears his sister bust a nut.

Wow thanks jjmgt that's some sexy information I'll definitely be using that Phone Post

Another thing, before you pack up and move, make a written list of everything you guys have to do.

Who washes clothes, dries them, folds them, who cooks, who cleans the dishes, who dumps the trash etc., Bills, who pays what, when, is rent free and for how long? Are you expected to pay something but no exact amount and for how long? Electricity? Etc. Both of you should sign the lists and make copies for each other.

You think its stupid until you start living together and have to hear someone complain how you are not contributing
