I'm new to training BJJ but have been an active wrestler and martial artist for years. I've been struggling the last few years but have recently started BJJ classes and they are awesome! Bakersfield BJJ and instructor Matt Baker are a great place for me. The point is, I've been saving for almost two years to get the money together for a gi, about $180. I'm 6'2", 220lbs and need a good quality gi as it will be all I can afford for a long time. I've looked seriously at Atama, Vulkan, Koral and Gameness, Who should I choose? Can anybody tell me where to get better prices? I don't make much money and spend what I do make on my daughter. Help me out UG!
I'm 6'2" 205 and have a double weave gameness in great condition that I never wear that I could send you for 75 bucks. I haven't worn it in 2 years probably.
Looks just like this only blue.
I'll consider it. Two questions, why are you getting rid of it? why gameness?
Wasn't really looking to get rid of it. I still train, just trying to help you out.
But i'm not going to try and sell you on it, lol.
Get a Fuji, they are really well made, soft, and you can get two of them for $180. They will both last twice as long since you won't be washing and drying the same gi every day to train.
I really appreciate that! Seriously, thanks! I'm gonna wait and see what else I can learn first but I'll keep it in mind.
I will say too, I tend to be hard on clothing and equipment.

I've got the Mantis model, and it's hands down the best gi I own (and I own a lot). And cheaper then the brands you've mentioned too. Just a phenominal gi, and what's even better is that you send them your measurements and they find the best fit for you, so no guesswork and on a cool 40c wash they hardly shrink, so you get the same fit as you did when you took it out of the bag. Oh, and if you don't want the patch on the front, just ask and they'll remove it for you. That's the difference between a normal BJJ gi company and a company that are used to making custom fit Judo gis - they know real customer service.

I've had my Sirius gi for 3 years now and I still love it. Great prices.

This.
Last month I bought 3 Fuji gi's from Kodokan.com for $65.00 each. They are awesome!

Is there even any real difference between the Fuji and say a Vulkan pro light?

Yeah... Both of my Fuji's somehow managed to shrink... Even though I washed them cold and hung them up to dry. I didn't know that could happen.
The Vulkans are advertised as pre-shrunk and the two I own have never given me any trouble. I have a Koral as well and it has been fine.
If you are concerned about cost and longevity, I wouldn't get a vulkan or any light model of gi. My vulkan pants were ripped up in about a year.
I would agree with the fuji recommendation. Seems like a good, inesxpensive gi. Same with Howard.
I have my vulkan a4 top that I never wear that I could send you. I could probably find a pair of pants, too.
I picked up a Spartan gi last year and love it. It shrunk to fit perfectly and has held up well.

I really appreciate all of the info and offers for help so far!
Howard Kimono is your best bet. They are built like a tank! You can buy 2 singles for under 180. These Gi's will last you forever. By far, best bang for your buck.

It gets really hot here in Bakersfield too, is that a big factor?
Thanks, she does love ice cream, but we make it at home. I cook all our meals. That would make a lot of ice cream though! I've heard of three or four of these brands being great except for the pants, what's up with that?
I agree. Plus, veggies you grow are so much better tasting and far more nutritious. I almost never get sick either. Lets me use my money to take her to places I've never been like Chinese New Year in SF. I've heard good things about lucky.
Check out Ouano. Fuji is solid. HCK will last forever. Sirius make a great gi.
