Giant Silva a pointless MMA addition

When not wrestling, Silva works as a bouncer in New York City.

WHERE IN NYC?!?!?!?!?!?!?

32m - I'll never be a big fan of Silva.

1) Busted for roids.

2) Mainly size...but I admit he's now got some striking and BB in BJJ, but still not great technique.

3) He's 31. He'll never be an all time great.

wow.
just noobified yourself.

True. However, I don't watch much WWE these days.

Or Pride, apparently.

Also, I can't believe how many people responded to this thread. Isn't this an MMA board? Hey...I'm proud to be "noobified" rather than participating KNOWING that this crap about a WWE fake wrestler is being brought up on an MMA board.

The crap that Giant did was not MMA. It was freakshow crap in Japan. Silva is 350 pounds and will never fight in regulated MMA. Hey I love freakshows...but that $hit is NOT MMA.

Have you even SEEN pride? before? you're noobifying yourself even more now. You sound like your entire knowledge of prideFC comes from chael sonnen.

I've watch most of the better Pride stuff like Fedor v Cro Cop, Rampage, shogun, etc.

But some of the $hit that Pride and JMMA was trying pass off as MMA was NOT MMA. Silva fights were NOT MMA. MMA has weight limits.

wow, so now old UFC's aren't mma either? you're noobifying yourself even MORE now by trying to say mma isn't mma if it doesn't follow NJSAC and NSAC-created unified rules.

lol @ 32m

let it go man, it happens.

Anti JR - Found a clip of him pro wrestling with about thirty people in attendance back in 09..sad.

all youve done is pull out big names from mainstream, what about the likes of Kerr, igor vovchanchyn, sakuraba and so on, not good Pride stuff?

32m - BTW, I'll say that I actually liked Pride fights BETTER than today's MMA, BUT...some of that $hit was NOT MMA. Fedor, Cro Cop, Nog, Sakuraba...etc...all that was REAL MMA.

But let's not mistake that with the other Crap they had.

You could say now that the likes of Herschel Walker in strikeforce and James Toney in the UFC were freakshows, but they still went ahead on respectable MMA cards... promoters knew it would make money, as did the PRIDE promoters

Tussin - What would be the opening betting line in a Giant Silva vs The Great Khali Punjabi Prison Match?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhjWr9nFvK8

be a rematch

that video was amazing

Waits for 32M to claim he was trolling and has actually been on the UG since 1/1/01

Exactly. The people at Pride are actually better at putting on exciting fights. The freakshow portion was very entertaining, but hardly real MMA in it's truest form.

In my opinion, American MMA is too serious. Real MMA should be the staple, but a freakshow fight here and there is fun to watch. As much as people deny it, people like to see Couture destroy James Toney. In my opinon, every other card should have one "entertainment fight", such as Couture vs Toney...so some other type of fight.

Even the folks at WWE understand that a great card doesn't always mean hardcore fighting. Sometimes, a little entertainment is fun.

Let's say I'm 9foot terrible at basketball but for some reason a NBA team hires me. So when I'm playing just because I don't actually have any skill am I not still playing basketball? Phone Post

I'm not sure what this has to do with MMA which HAS WEIGHT LIMITS. Please explain.

Also note that according the NSAC and most other ACs, if you have a fighter that weighs...let's say 400 pounds vs a 200 pound fighter, that fight would have to be labeled as "entertainment", not sanctioned MMA fight.

Knowing this, what is your point?

weight limits are arbitrary and don't having anything to do with whether a bout is "real" mma or not. would you also argue that a BJJ competition at Open weight (i.e. no weight limits) isn't "real" bjj?
