Gilbert Yvel in the UFC now??

http://www.cagepotato.com/gilbert-yvel-reportedly-signs-ufc

He may be infamous for biting, eye-gouging, and referee-assaulting, but that doesn't mean Gilbert Yvel wouldn't be a welcome addition to the UFC. Buried in a report about Lil' Nog's recent signing, MMA Weekly claims that Yvel is on the list of fighters who have been picked up by Zuffa after the collapse of Affliction. The 33-year-old Dutch heavyweight — who sports a record of 36-13-1 with one no-contest, and has claimed all of his wins by stoppage — most recently scored a grisly knockout over Pedro Rizzo at June's "Ultimate Chaos" show. Before that, he got crushed by Josh Barnett at Affliction: Day of Reckoning, which snapped a seven-fight win streak.

It's a mildly surprising acquisition, since Yvel's poor ground game has always prevented him from being an elite-level threat. But it makes sense on a number of levels. Obviously, Yvel is entertaining whether he wins, loses, or gets disqualified, so who wouldn't want to pick him up as a mid-level gatekeeper? (Heath Herring can't take all the beatings himself, can he?) More importantly, the signing blocks Strikeforce from adding a name-fighter to its own heavyweight division. And if Yvel can cut to 205, he can be part of the "Last Call" season of The Ultimate Fighter that as of now exists only in my head.

Be warned, Steve Mazzagatti: If Dana White calls you to make amends, and offers to let you work a heavyweight bout later this year, it might be a trap.

fuck that. i can hardly believe this asshole still gets high profile fights

the fact that he hasn't been black-balled out of MMA is a testament to how far MMA still needs to go before it's legit sport

I would watch him fight Kongo or Hardonk

omg man! 3 threads in a row you post a huge records listing that no one cares about!

 you spelt jiujitsu wrong...

walr?s - You do know there is a convcited serial dog killer, who was just released from prison, playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, right?

fail. Vick has no rep for breaking rules on the field. you know like like biting, eye-poking, illegal hits, KO'ing A REF

You are also aware that the referee in that incident in Finland was from his opponents camp, right?

fail. it doesn't fucking matter who's camp the ref is from. you DON'T ATTACK THE REF

You are also aware that Yvel is well-respected by pretty much everyone in Las Vegas' fight scene, right?

fail. Tank Abbott and Krazy Horse are well-respected in some circles too. you think they're good representatives of the sport?

Oh wait, you have a 7/4/09 join date...of course not. Welcome to the UG, Kimo Noob! LOL

typical. you equate message board join dates with knowledge or involvement in MMA? stop living in internet land

PembrokePinesVillain -  you spelt jiujitsu wrong...

I like the way I spelled it, it is my thing.

Michael Vronsky - fuck that. i can hardly believe this asshole still gets high profile fights the fact that he hasn't been black-balled out of MMA is a testament to how far MMA still needs to go before it's legit sport

Say that to his face.

That's what I thought.

you should have said "you spelt penis wrong" implying that he is a Pembroke Penis Villian.

thats what i would have done

He apparently does not like me very much, oh well.

walr?s - 2) You don't fuck with a fighters transportation, you don't fuck with a fighters hotel accomodations, you don't fucking crank call a fighter's room repeatedly the night of a fight, you'd don't try to repeatedly shake hands with a fighter's cock during the fight, you don't interefere with a fight, you don't have a referee from the same camp of a fighter in the ring. Wait, you have absolutely no idea about what really happened, do you? LOL

LOL at you believing these ridiculous excuses by Yvel's camp.

ttt

Yvel is scum and he should have no business fighting professionally.

A little background on the incident from multiple news sources: The referee was Atte Backman's manager and trainer as well as the promoter for the show. Not shown in the short clip is how many times he restarted the fight so it was in his fighters favor. I mean come on, they were in a clinch falling out of the ring. Instead of breaking the fight and continuing from standing, he tries to put them back in the clinch where his fighter had control? Earlier in the fight they hit the ropes and Yvel had a better position, the ref broke it apart and restarted them standing. BTW, that didn't happen in any other fight, when they got tangled in the ropes standing, the refs broke them apart to restart them. He got too hot after the ref took multiple points from him for the incident (two points at least), insuring his fighter would win a decision. He was getting screwed and should've left the ring in protest, instead the idiot lost it and clocked him. He broke the refs jaw and he did get arrested for it but not sure what else happened after that

A neat interview with Yvel after Barnett crushed him.

Personally, I always wanted to see Gerard Gordeau, Dirty Bob Schriber, Yvel and Mike Kyle all fight in a truly no holds barred tourny. The fouls would be flying....

ttt

"Heath Herring can't take all the beatings himself, can he?"

Hahahah. Heath always reminded me of Tim Sylvia, and vice versa. They might as well be brothers.

slamming - Loss Roman Zentsov KO (Punch) PRIDE - Total Elimination Absolute 5/5/2006 1 4:55

I watched this fight last night. Another example of Pride's terrible refereeing. Yvel is knocked out COLD and Zentsov is standing above him for a couple of seconds obviously realising this and reluctant to hit him again.

The ref only steps in when Zentsov clobbers him again.

Yvel looked horrible in that fight. He was a can back then. He looks meaner and leaner now. The man cant wrestle though.

I can't find the article but Gilbert said he has not had any contact with UFC and is definitely not signed with them

smoogy - I can't find the article but Gilbert said he has not had any contact with UFC and is definitely not signed with them

wierd.....

Meltzer's saying in the Observer that Yvel isn't signed with UFC at all.
