Probably bull sharks. They are all over those waters and pretty ducking aggressive.
Wrong time of year for bull sharks in the Caribbean I thought? Don't they head to colder water around end of March? I may be way off though...
This is accurate as far as I can tell. They will mostly be well north of the carribean in late June for the most part, and not back until the waters cool down.
More likely it was white tips or other reef sharks in a frenzy mentality. Especially if she saw them and started moving erratically.
I was just in the Gulf of Mexico - put on my flippers and mask and started swimming out as far as I could without freaking out. I made it to about 15-20 feet deep and visibility dropped dramatically. Fuck that....I want to see what kills me - turned back like a pussy.
A couple hours later a baby hammerhead cruises by in less than two feet of water.
Probably bull sharks. They are all over those waters and pretty ducking aggressive.

Bull sharks are currently spawning in Florida estuaries.
Overall thier spawning grounds have been shifting north the last few years.

Pinsky isn't the only scientist to make this observation. In April, researchers in North Carolina published a paper in Nature's Scientific Resources that documented the northern migration of bull shark nurseries.

By analyzing data from North Carolina's Division of Marine Fisheries (NCDMF), the researchers found that between 2003 and 2011, when water temperatures in the sound were hovering closer to 22 degrees Celsius, only six juvenile sharks were caught in the area. But as temperatures began to rise, a group of bull sharks migrated from their previous home in Northern Florida and established a nursery in Pamlico, causing a drastic uptick in juvenile shark presence. Between 2011 and 2016 alone, NCDMF found 53.]
Rising sea temps and all. I don't think this was bull sharks that far south (carribean) this time of year.
