Give me my due...re: BJ

Kai that is also one of the things I have been saying.

Kai Tremeche - I disagree with the line about wrestling.

What BJ Penn needs is an camp that is not a bunch of yes men and more than 1 game plan.

...and this is coming from a BJ Penn hater.

Or maybe he's just getting older and a new generation is supplanting him.

ceastridge - If the sport of MMA has come to tap and jab and run. Or wrestle lay and pray than im done. GSP and Edgar nuthuggers love 25 minutes of running than awesome. I will stick to BJJ and enjoy the sport of true champions.

Both GSP and Edgar beat the hell out of BJ. Also, GSP is a black belt and most likely better at BJJ now than you'll ever be. What are you talking about?

Really working the sore lose angle tonight I see.

Whoa. You are as dumb as you look. I am no BJJ apologist, I have made fun of my fair share of BJ Penn fans already tonight.

The fact that you are a douche-tastic troll is a totally separate issue.

LOL!

BJ was slow, confused and simply not at home. While Edgar is a good fighter, BJ looked like a zombie. Diego isnt any less spazzy than Edgar.

No one lasts forever and it may simply be that BJ's time has come.

Bj's guard learn the right terms before you go making crazy statements Phone Post

Yeah, "LOL". I win.

Can't argue that BJ Penn didn't look awful in there last night. But wtf is up with your wrestling vs bjj shtick?

Doesn't Frankie Edgar fight out of Ricardo Almieda's camp?

And Penn doesn't train wrestling? He takes wrestling seriously and always brings in good wrestlers to train with.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you're trolling.

Call it what you want. You can call it trolling. I call it winning.

TiTTy!

is bj the worst bjj blackbelt off his back?

Are you kidding me with this statement? You think it's easy to sweep a BJJ purple belt and awesome wrestler like Frankie from your back? BJ swept him in the first.

Frankie was impressive. BJ looked like a zombie walking to the ring. It is not BJJ vs wrestling. WTF is this STILL an issue. It's BJJ + wrestling.

Useless guard. All he ever does is hold on with his version of mission control. No sub attempts, not even punching edgar while holding him.

He had success in taking Edgar down, why not continue that or do it sooner? You know your not as fast on the feet, take it down.

I wouldn't call his guard useless. He didn't take much damage from him and he swept Frankie in the 1st. There was a point where he kept trying desperately to get to his feet and I could not for the life of me figure out why. He was getting beat to the punch standing and was having a very tough time stopping the takedowns. Why not just accept that he's going to put you on your back and try to set up a sub from the bottom. Not that it would have been easy on a guy like Frankie, but at least give it a shot.

While he did take Frankie down a few times he really couldn't hold him down. That was his problem. He had him on his back but was spending a lot of energy trying to control him. At every turn Frankie was trying to get up.

train a day with bj and then say his guard sucks. edgar must be on a level i had no idea existed.

i would say that he definitely does know how to wrestle considering how he took Frankie down twice.

he just lost because Frankie was the better fighter.

Seeking acknowledgement on the interwebs?

Especially for something that isn't proven :]

BJ had Frankie on his toes early in the guard but he faded.

BJ has elite td defense and some good wreslting of his own but not sure how much he's worked on it and def hasnt used it much because he's been outstriking guys...and he faded.

BJ took Hughes' back from guard.

But we havent seen too much of BJ's guard cuz he either is super hard to take down or stands back up normally.

What BJ needs more than anything imo is to put it all together better. He has ALL the tools. He is one of the most complete fighters in the game by a mile but has been relying on his talent and hasnt never been a great general or adapter imo.

I agree a shake up in his camp would help.

That too.

BJ has been around fo a while folk.

Its not just about physical wear and tear and deterioration which is happening though with BJ and Fedor and Anderson, they are not gonna be in their physical primes forever.

Fighting smart, using your experience comes into play always when you get older.

But motivation has always been an issue for BJ and if he couldnt get motivated for this, it doesnt look good....though i think he could still beat any LW.

Dude, you've had personal hate for BJ for years (simply because he was the anti-hero to the beloved canadian GSP...admit it to yourself), and now that BJ has faltered against Frankie (yes I totally admit that), suddenly you've been right ALL ALONG!

Dude, you need to let go the hate and see straight.

...and btw I agree his gameplan (or lack thereof) for the last few fights were the suck, and his performances inexplicable, and yes, he needs to not just change up his camp, he needs to join a someone else's already established camp and just be one of the stable of fighters there. As a raw box of tools, he's still got the goods, but everything else has to change.

Lol at how far the UG swings to opp ends. We know BJ boners never believe BJ ever really loses but worst guard?

My gawd this place......
