People are getting way too ahead of themselves crowning Glover as the next big thing.
The dude's had one UFC win over Kyle Kingsbury (4-4 in UFC), and his previous 3 wins were over Ricco Rodgriquez, Marvin Eastman, and Antonio Mendes -- guys on their way out of the sport.
Yes, Glover looks promising but let's not go too crazy over him until he beats some top competition. I remember people gushing over guys like Denis Kang and Jorge Santiago too.
The thread is good, because Glover has one fight in the UFC. In the UFC he is unproven. He is far from a rookie though. He has good quality wins, but the UFC light heavy weight division is a tough division, and to think he is going to run through it is idiotic. There is a little hype there for sure.
Glover's hype comes from Joe Rogan having heard he's a beast in training, from his camp. Not from his record or past opponents. Which is fine. Nobody's saying he's proven, at least not UFC proven, just that he seems to be a legitimate contender. Time will tell.
The sport will grow stale if you don't allow yourself to be excited about new fighters, or fighters coming in from other promotions where they dominated.
What I don't understand is how he can have three wins in 5 months in the WEC, all finishes, including a win over Sokoudjou, and then no fights for 18 months, until he resurfaces fighting in minor promotions. What's that about? Did the guy do time or something? There's been talk of VISA issues...
I'm sure OP (if he wasn't in diapers still) thought the same thing about Anderson when he came to the UFC. Not saying Glover is Spider, but sometimes records on paper don't give you the whole picture. Take a look at 5 of his fights, you'll be amazed at the consistency of his performance and power/skill.

dont be a slave to sherdog fight finder...watch him fight, read up on his history and you will see why people are so high on him
Yes and don't buy into the hype without having seen him fight top level opponents either! This much more the issue because Zuffa is building him up and this has not occurred even yet!
mijo - So Glover gets his hype from sparring sessions?
C'mon guys!
Well when a dude is so famous for his sparring sessions that the likes of Shogun and Rashad are ducking him you have to consider him a real threat to the title.
