Gloves

Up till recently I've been a big proponent of sparring with heavier gloves.

A lot of my normal sparring partners are a lot smaller (and faster); so I've been wearing huge heavy hitter gloves (20 and 22 ounces) to try to balance out the discrepency.

I knew the big gloves would make a huge difference on defense; but this weekend, doing defense drills with 14 oz gloves and a bigger partner, I finally realized just how much a difference.

Not only was there a huge change in the amount of open space I had to cover (due to the difference in the size), but the amount of impact absorbed. When shielding with the 14z, even when I absorbed the shot on my gloves, i felt a lot more impact carry through.

I think I'm going to train with smaller gloves from here on out.

For everybody out there: Do you think it's worth it to buy a pair of 16z, or should the 14z cut it?

i use 16oz but im sure 14oz wouldn't hurt but only help your game, cause like you said you have more area to cover for defense, granted not much, but your post was correct.

Thanks :)

I was mostly worried about the damage to my training partners. Ended up getting some Ringside Ultimate Classic 16z just to be sure. We're talking like 80 or 90 pound difference.
