GB is a true fan. I first became friends with him around 2001 and ive attended shows with him, had guys fight on his cards many times, and have had more phone conversations with him about MMA than anyone else in my life. he understands the passion of actually loving the fights. god forbid he doesnt support "mma fashion shows" or stuff like that lol.
pretty lame that he is banned. yet all the johnny come lately types are talking out of their asses without knowing anything.

I miss GB and wish he wasn't run-off. I miss him for his personality
and insidership, not for his support for MMA. He's admitted that he
barely watches it anymore."
That statement is partially correct. However the part left out is what
made me title the blog "Still Supporting the Sport". The following is
an excerpt from my blog.
"I got a call a few weeks ago where an old school writer needed some
pics for a piece he was doing for a Japanese magazine. He tells me
that he asked a photographer for some pics and was told that he would
have to pay for them. It wasn't a high paying gig and I'm sure the
cost of the pics were more than he would make for the story. On top of
that....what fighter wouldn't want the exposure overseas? I guess the
Combat Lifestyle cost more than just few RedBull and Vodka's. None the
less his old buddy GB called the promotion and got him some pictures
for free."
Now, it wasn't a big deal for me to do what I did just picking up the
phone. However, it helped a long time journalist who has covered this
sport for years actually make a small profit where writing the piece
and paying for pictures would have cost him to do the feature. The
feature will get the fighter exposure overseas and hopefully create a
whole new fan base for him and the promotion he fights for. As some of
you remember the sport was built off of everyone supporting it.
Calling the cable companies, writing congress and most importantly
just helping out where you could. The fans played a major part in the
sport surviving through the dark times when it was banned. The fans at
that time were just as important as the promotions and the fighters
because they were so passionate about the growth of MMA.
I think the fans of today share a lot of that same passion but to the
ones that were there its just something you can't describe. I guess
you just had to be there. Again, the thing I miss about MMA doesn't
have anything to do with the actual sport. It has to do with nowadays
there are more people who have jumped on the bandwagon with their hand
out. There are some great new companies and people who are more than
doing their part. Crooklyn and what she has done with TapOut radio is
a great example. The new sponsors helping these fighters out is also
something that back in the day was almost nonexistent. As much as I
like to make fun of them its great (and I know Joey's pocketbook
appreciates them as well) to see these guys not struggling as much.
Really the sport is doing just fine and us old timers can bitch all we
want about how the sport isn't what it used to be. I guess if all it
takes is having alot more groupies and goons then there really isn't
much to bitch about. My buddies are making good living now so thats
the important thing. At the end of the day I got banned on purpose
because I really care less about the current trends or lifestyles of
MMA.

GB is a complicated creature but a very good person. I don't believe for a second he no longer supports the sport because he has always talked like that... he's a great troll and always has been because he gets bored easily.
If he called someone the "N" word then he deserves the penalty because in that regard, no, he isn't exempt from any associated consequences. I think the issue most have is that GB was banned for infractions when so many others are not/were not.
GB might act like a dick sometimes but what he does for folks behind the scenes says who he really is. A few months ago he stepped in on an issue that essentially saved a small apparel company as well as extended another lifeline to someone who had lied his ass off and knowingly took advantage of people. GB felt the latter needed just "one more chance" and the former was simply trying to help and acted on the information he had available to him at the time. I guess only time will tell if GB's support was warranted.
If possible, I would like to see GB apologize to whomever he offended when he hurled the epithet, if this account is accurate. The rumor thing? LOL@ that considering half of the board is guilty of doing the same thing on a daily basis.
