Gomi truth - bummer - denied

As one of many Gomi fans it is apparent he does not have what it takes at this stage of his career to compete for a belt at the UFC level. Not saying he couldn't beat anybody on any given night.........but he is not THE MAN!  This realization is a bummer.

With that said, I am disappointed that the UFC did not try to provide the fans with some more exhilerating matchups when introducing the 'Fireball Kid' to the UFC fanbase who had not seen him fight before. I would have loved a Sam Stout or Spencer Fisher match before throwing him to the grapplers.

I would still love to see Gomi vs Stout!

Completely agree. Time and again, the UFC throws foreign fighters with name recognition to the wolves. Gomi is just the latest.

It's rare to find someone NOT thrown to the wolves in the UFC.

Fight was on the feet for quite a bit and guida outstruck him. I could see a fisher/stephens/stout type fight next if he does not get cut.

Prediction: Gomi goes back to Japan, becomes Dream champ.

All in degrees.

It's true most of the fight was on the feet............but that is hardly a conventional 'on the feet' kind of fight. Shit, how do you fight that? I also like Guida, and I thought the plan he brought was strangly brilliant in some fucked up way. BUT WHAT WAS THAT? It is not to be confused with your typical stant up fight.

He had his chance to box against Florian. Grapplers make up much of MMA, Gomi is one himself, you cannot handpick or avoid certain matchups.

Gomi will lose to Stout or Fisher now anyhow. He will get outboxed by any technical striker at this point with ease.

Cuz he was just lighting it up over there before the UFC, right?

currymuncha - Yeah it was fucked up for they got Dong Hyun Kim to fight GSP first up huh?

excuses excuses...

stun gun is actually the exception in one of the asian fighters brought in and being brought along slow and steady.

Stop wasting your time.

I once told someone in a McDonalds lineup to stop eating junkfood.

Gomi has been my favorite fighter for years, and after watching him all those years, I have noticed his sub defense really needs improvement. He can't stop the takedown from these bigger UFC lw's so he really needs the sub defense for when it does hit the ground. He is still an amazing fighter he just needs to patch that hole and I could def see him being competitive and in title contention after a few more wins.

lol @ "to the wolves". Guida was 7-5 in the UFC going into this fight. Who do you want Gomi to fight?

As mentioned, Guida isnt necessarily a top contender either. Although he is now making a nice run at it, and could be considered one in the near future.

Most of the Pride guys faded once they came over. Funny how that works...

Gomi gives up chokes when he tries to escape and has done for years

Clay looked insanely fast in his prefight training videos and it seems like he found a way to make that hair work for him finally

Gomi would get fucking demolished by Fisher or Stout.

Gomi getting outstruck by Guida was depressing.

"Gomi would get fucking demolished by Fisher or Stout."

No way. These guys like to exchange and while skilled are conventional. I.E. are not run and gunners.

Gomi would fair well with both imo.

His problem is his inabilty to fight off his back, for even short times.

I still dont know where the hell that guy trains. Wasnt there talk that he was at AKA a while back?

Who knows, without a legit camp, no matter who you are and especially when you are north of 30, you can only do so much.

Guida was a good match-up on paper. If it was the Guida that dug in and grinded it out but seriously how does one prepare to fight someone acting like a damn fool?

Gomi needs to stop sitting on his laurels. He always does this shit. Looks good, looks terrible, looks good, looks terrible, etc... Tonight he looked terrible. Phone Post
