BJ's best performance ever. He mauled Gomi.
Bj is the man.
Gomi was completely dominated in that fight. BJ at 155 is dominant and I don't see too many people that can hang with him let alone have a shot at beating him.
Great fight, BJ beat him like a red headed step child.

BJ is almost as dominant at 170. He ripped through Hughes the first time around when he was going on like 7 title defenses in a row, then he was beating him just as bad until he seperated a rib in the second fight. BJ dominated the most dominant UFC champion ever, and Hughes was still in his prime...not like Hughes was old or anything.
I used to hate the BJ nut riders, but they've been right this whole time.
Great fight.
"BJ's best performance ever. He mauled Gomi."
2nd best.
Best is agaisnt Hughes the first time. Hughes was the undisputed #1 WW when BJ beat him and that was BJ's first WW fight too.
Gomi had just suffered his first loss in his career before facing BJ (to Hansen) and therefore was not the #1 LW. BJ schooled him no doubt but you got to give Gomi credit for having the balls to face BJ Penn, in Hawaii, right after his first career loss.
" Hawaii has the best fighters in the world. Fuck!"
I love that part. BJ is the best at 155, and maybe 170 too.
Wasa-B rubber stamped correct on this thread.
I personally am a huge Gomi fan, and yes admire his bravery.. It's the likes of EY's incessant nuthugging that makes me say anything negative about him in the first place.
"I used to hate the BJ nut riders, but they've been right this whole time."
LOL. True.
its criminal how easily bj took him down and got mount. wouldn't sherk just destroy him or am i missing something?
^ LOL.. Oh your missing nothing dude, keep your own outlook and judge yourself - most of us have too much of an agenda :)
who was the american comentators for this fight?
Absolute destruction by BJ. Gomi just isn't in the same league as him, no matter what his nuthuggers tell you.
Sherk vs. Penn for the true #1 LW in the world.
Has Penn ever looked that fit too? Crikey.
guarantee part II goes the same way...Penn by mauling
"Sherk vs. Penn for the true #1 LW in the world."
News Flash... Sean Sherk isnt the #1 LW in the world. There are lots of people ahead of him as far as LW rankings are concerned.
"There are lots of people ahead of him as far as LW rankings are concerned."
Yeah? Who's that?
And how long are results from the now defunct pride going to be relevant? Most recent cross-over fights go the way of 'UFC guys'.
I think it's time to relegate the notion of Pride fighters being 'simply on another level' to the dustbin where it should be.
Takanori Gomi
Hayato Sakurai
Gilbert Melendez
Tatsuya Kawajiri
Shinya Aoki
Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro
Joachim Hansen
Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto
Sherk has only beat 2 guys at LW. Florian, who isnt even ranked and Franca. Franca is his best opponent yet but does beating him really earn him the # 1 spot?
It hasnt even been a year since Pride was bought out and you already want to disregard all the LW match ups they had?
No, I just don't understand why all the pride guys fighting each other with a few ring ins from UFC like Pulver (beaten by J-Lau for God's sake) or Yves 1-5 as of late, mean so much, but the likes of Diaz mashing up Gomi, and diaz being beaten soundly by Sherk means nothing.
That's just one example.
the fact of the matter is there's never been many matchups at LW that truly showed us the playing field. We've had some at MW and LHW like Busta, Baroni, Chuck - but still sporadic results that really didn't indicate a whole lot. And even still when those results like Gomi v Penn happen they're disregarded and hyperbole around Pride fighters 'simply' being better starts up again.
