it's frustrating to see a fighter hold on till it hurts when they are not even trying to get out.

Nothing surprising. His ground is great and McCully got his BB from a crackerjacks box.

Ouch, looks like that hurt.

That was the first sub I was taught in BJJ. Nice to see someone pull it off in the UFC

nasty

"on another note, i always thought the "americana" was another name for the arm facing down- shoulder lock, or kimura. not the figure four armlock or top wristlock. too many fucking names."

The Americana is the official BJJ name, I think...The other names like "Paint Brush" and "Key Lock" come from other styles or American gyms.

"Kimura" and "Americana" are like opposites.

LOL

Why is that funny?

Gabe is good.

Looks uncomfortable.  McCully didn't seem to be putting up much of a defense.  I haven't seen the actual fight yet though, so I may be wrong (but I doubt it).

Why is it called the Americana? I heard that Rolles was taught the move by American wrestling coach Bob Anderson. Any confirmation on this?

Use the judo names and EVERYTHING is ude garami. :)

If only we had someone to do the writeup "MY GOD THIS GONZAGA" style.

americana seems so low percantage

at least for myself

the only guy i see have tremendous success with it is ron waterman

usually its a setup

thats why i was kinda upset at forrest trying to finnish the kimura instead of switching or baiting to something else

William Colosimo - hmm. i cant remember too many instances of a top wristlock from mount (not sidemount) finishing a fight.

on another note, i always thought the "americana" was another name for the arm facing down- shoulder lock, or kimura. not the figure four armlock or top wristlock. too many fucking names.

The Americana is not a wristlock, its a shoulderlock.  Gonzaga is attacking McCully's shoulder.  No, the American is the same as what some people call the figure four or the "paintbrush", though that name is all but extinct.  The Kimura is also a shoulder lock, and is sometimes called a "hammerlock"

Neither of these are wristlocks.

""Kimura" and "Americana" are like opposites."

The official result they announced was by "kimura".

Some of the names that come from catch wrestling backgrounds name the hold based on where you're holding the opponent not where the pain is. As an example, a toe hold does not focus pain on the toes but that is the part of the body you are holding. Top wrist lock is another name for the americana. I believe double wrist lock is a name for kimura. Strange? Yes.

Hey Beer Man - Why is it called the Americana? I heard that Rolles was taught the move by American wrestling coach Bob Anderson. Any confirmation on this?

Yes they learned it from the American wrestlers. If you say it was Bob Anderson then i believe you
