Over the past couple years Hurtsbad MMA has grown from a hobby to a job for our staff. We need a fresh perspective on various angles of the sport ranging from the UFC saturated stuff to M-1, Strikeforce, Bellator, and most importantly regional based coverage.
Our connections have led us to interview opportunities with legends like Don Frye and Randy Couture to Champs like Ben Askren and Dom Cruz. We have countless interview opps for the right contributor.
For that same contributor we can also pose the possiblity of sending them to high level events as press if that position presents itself as it has many times in the past. We also can get our writers access to conference calls for all organizations.
This is an opportunity to have your voice heard in a valid format for a growing site with potential to take you a far as youre willing to go with us.
Our Vice President and main contributor has been featured on FOX Sports, CBS Sports, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated MMA sections. This is not just another group of armchair warriors with a laptop. We are deep in this business, but we do it the hard way.
No top ten articles, no Brock Lesnar is the greatest, we start at the local level and earn it up from there. Thats how we wound up watching UFC events sitting next to Don Frye and and world champs.
Email me at hurtsbadmma@gmail.com and tell me why you might like to be a part of the team, what you want out of covering the sport, and we can chat.
I see that you have made what I would say is a conscience effort not to include compensation for this position. What are the chances that this is a non-paying opportunity?
crowbar - I see that you have made what I would say is a conscience effort not to include compensation for this position. What are the chances that this is a non-paying opportunity?
It depends on what ones idea of compenation is. If I had a dollar for everytime a site asked me to write for free I would be rich. Also if I had a dollar for everytime someone asked me if I was paid to write I would be richer.
At my last event I was given fifteen hundred dollars worth of seats, Ive sat at premier events in seats money could not buy. I can walk into any gym in my area sit down and talk with any fighter I like. I talk with world champs and guys like Eddie Bravo and Ed Soares on a regular basis.
To me that is great compensation on my way to achieving a goal of making a living covering MMA.
So in short is it paying cash money not at the moment. Yet there are some awesome perks for the person who is sitting around sharing opinions for free anyway.
Its my opinion that if someone enters into this for money they are in the wrong business anyway, they should cover baseball. I dont know too many MMA journalists retiring early.
Im just looking for someone who want to break in, and offer them some guidence and open door through the means I have at my disposal.
Thanks for asking.
Good response, but I could not help but notice, that you were referring to yourself as the individual that has received those kind of perks. What can an applicant expect with your cafefully selected words like we can "pose the possibility of sending them to high level events as press if that position presents itself"?
Some of the wording you have chosen appears to equal that of having a carrot placed in front of oneself.
Seriously,if Hurtsbad MMA received an opportunity for press credentials & all of the perks at a "high level show" I am comfortable in believing that the opportunity I just spoke of,would probably be taken by someone like yourself,or at the least,a staff member with more seniority, rather than the new applicant.

You sure make it sound like you've got a big huge website and a lot of potential.
what do you have to justify those statements? it sure isn't traffic to your website.
Sounds like you're trying awful hard to appear to be something you aren't.
just being honest might help. if someone made a mistake thinking they did this huge move by writing for you, then found out that your site has no traffic, and your hype was just BS, how long do you think they'd stay?
Why not be honest and say 'hey we have a small site and are trying to get more talent in to get us recognized and a good readhserhip'?
at least be honest.

Sorry man, its not my intention here to mislead people at all or dangle a carrot. I have on more than a few occasions sent people who have worked with me to Strikeforce and Bellator. I have had analysts on conference calls on a regular basis. And no, not every credential we pull is hoarded by the top dogs at all. Hell, If I could make every show out there I would but its not do-able. Thats why I want more people on board so we can take advantage. If theres a UFC in TX or NJ, I cant make it, so if I can send someone else I would rather do that than pass on a credential. I cant make every conference call so Id like to have reps there also. These are real deal offers that I have made happen for myself for years and want to open the door for other enthusiasts to jump in the mix. I could use the help. I leave a lot of stuff on the table just becuase I cant cover all the bases offered to me. I hope that clarifies where Im coming from. I cant garuantee anything right her and now because sometimes we get creds, sometimes we dont. But if and when we do if our writers can make it, those creds are theirs and like Ive said, Ive sat cageside for hundreds of fights, and know a lot of people in the biz. Just want some people who would like to take advantage of that.

I think youre taking what Im saying and twisting it to sound like something else. Did I say we were some high ranking site with high levels of traffic, no. I said we are a growing site looking for someone to grow with us.
If my site was all youre saying I quote it to be I wouldnt be on the MMA forums looking for content contributors would I.
What Im trying to do is portray our site which through my connections in this business has a lot of open doors for enthusiasts who would like to have a platform to share their take on the sport.
Listen, Im not trying to pull a fast one here. I have turned down plenty of paying gigs for top site to run my own thing on my terms. Nothing I have said in this post is a lie or misleading.
Right now I can call any number of MMA icons and get an interview. For each of them there are a dozen guys no one has ever heard of on their way to the top who cherish the publicity I give them.
How can I be more honest. Im looking for people who want to take their involvement up a notch and jump into this with me. No promises other than involving them in the doors I can open for them.
Im not Sherdog obviously. Im not MMA Junkie. Im a humble grass roots site that cant make every event that Im offered credenetials for to UFC, SF, and Bellator shows. I cant make every UFC conference call. I could use a little help exposing my site and taking full advantage of the respect I have earned in this business.
Bro, I dont talk with guys like Eddie Bravo, Ed Soares, Dom Cruz, Don Frye, Cain Velaquez........etc etc etc because Im a bullshitter.
Sorry if Ive given that impression. It really is not my style. Thanks for setting me straight though. Take care.
I like carrots and happen to own a MMA gym for the last 10 years and as luck would have it have been in the cage/ring a few times myself as a fighter and a ref. I have been just outside the cage as a judge, cornerman and even as a paid event consultant. I have been in cageside, ringside and in the cheapest of cheap seats. At a few events I have set up the ring and cage and tore it down at the conclusion of an event. I've given and recieved autographs, taken and posed for photographs. I have even played the video games on Dreamcast as well as as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. I live in New Jersey and Jersey lives in me. I don't usually talk the talk but I have walked the walk and won't balk at a chance to squawk. Forget I wrote the previous sentence, unless you like it.
I'd like more details about these oportunties for myself and those individuals that I know who are much more talented writers than I will ever be.

Eddie thanks for chiming in. I sent you a brief message and will send further details soon. A well versed opinion would be more than I dreamed of finding. So I look forward to shooting the MMA breeze and seeing what we can work out.
What kind of previous experience are you looking for?
Da Fiend - What kind of previous experience are you looking for? <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
Honestly, as I am not offering much in return other than the simple perks I can offer, zero.
Let me put it like this. I started commenting on blogs years ago, then decided to try my hand at writing a baseball article. A few months and articles later I was syndicated from Bleacher Report to FOX Sport.
At the time I had zero experience. That evolved into a a pretty solid reputation as an MMA writer. So I dont place much faith in experience more so then interest. If you can articulate, have a solid angle on what youre saying, and are consistent, Im all ears. Hit me up.
leque - OnepunchJD is the best writer on the forum, seek him <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
Thanks for the heads up.
