Got Interview - wen to ask bout $?

O crapola, I got an interview next week... ayeeeee. I am reading a book on effective interview skills right now. So when do I ask about salary?

I have some other interviews coming in the following weeks how do I go about this? If they do want to hire me I dont want to say yes right away and then have to turn down an interview next week for a better job.

Please advise O wise brethren of da OG. Thank you.

Try to get a good idea about how much that type of position pays in your area. Then you'll have a ballpark.

Some interviewers will ask about salary. If not they should ask you if you have any questions near the end of the interview. That is th time to ask about salary, hours, vacation, sick time, benefits, etc....

thanks for your reply big_slacker. our phone convo went well so hopefully the interview does also. i think i will take it if it is 40k or above since it is just an entry level IT positon.

what is a reasonable amount of time to give them an answer if they do decide to hire me - a few days, a week?

what is the avg time it takes for an employer to contact you after the initial application?

40k entry level? my 1st paid 24k.

ask them how long they'll take to contact you.

get the phone number of the HR person and your future boss.

call within a week to ask if there is anything else they need from you.

use the major job web boards to get as many recruiters calling you as possible. you need to use them for practice. once you're comfortable witt those, you need to ask for face to face interviews.

"what is a reasonable amount of time to give them an answer if they do decide to hire me - a few days, a week?"

Few days is typical. Week or longer is really only if this is your first job out of school, career fair type of thing.

Don't ask, just negotiate.

StephenL yea you're right 40k is too much for an entry level job. It seems like a very successful company and I am keeping my fingers crossed. They said I would have to come in for a 2nd interview in front of different HR if I was accepted. I was complimented multiple times on how I dealt with the questions, it was a panel of 3 higher ups doing it.

I know I made a good impression on them. They told me they want to fill this positon very soon so they will be contact with me shortly. I am hoping and praying this goes through!

TY very much for your feedback O wise brethren of da OG. Now comes the agonizing part of waiting for that phone call. AYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

interview elsewhere. keep the gears turning.

you never know, you may get a better job.

never put all your eggs in one basket.

think of yourself as a whore. just fuck as many chicks as possible, then go on to the next one.

dont tell them how much you make now. They will offer you typically 10% less than what they think the job's worth
