This poses an interesting situation. I don't know how I'd feel knowing a guy is a no-gi black belt was rolling in a blue belt for the past 9 months. Surely, after you got into the rhythm of things, you were destroying blue and purple belts.
If I were a black belt and started taking only no-gi glasses, I wouldn't say I am a white belt. You are right, they are almost two different sports, but a black belt is a black belt. Still translates. Doesn't translate as well from no-gi to gi but still..
How do you do against blue, purple, and brown belts in the gi?
I do well against most. The belt is not only for rolling skill. It's also for knowledge. I have purple belt knowledge of the Gi. I still am lost passing certain types of spider guards and such
i'll beat you ;)
Congrats!!
Congrats! How much gi prior experience did you have?
Two and a half years of Gi
Congrats!
I feel that the transition from no gi to gi is much harder than the reverse. Props for sticking with it.
i think it is going to help your no gi game big time
Congrats man !!
Congrats!!
Bravo to a guy who is going about this the way he should. Nothing but respect for CUO. Congrats!!

I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first either, especially when Horowich entered as a blue belt at the San Diego trials when I thought he was a 10th Planet brown or black. Also Think of the Div 1 wrestler that enters a nogi division as a white belt.
I respect the 10th planet guys that seek out training in the gi. I wonder if there were ever enough would Eddie ever hold a gi class?
CUO,
Props on the promotion! From a super legit instructor too! If you don't mind me asking, how has training in the gi impacted your nogi? Any noticeable differences or not really?
Ossssssss
Congrats bro!!!
Nice to see congrats
Interesting how you see gi and no gi as different sports but gi guys who get a black belt are not lower in no gi they are just black belts all around.
Awesome, congrats.
Is the gi easier on your body?
You had hernia or disc issues right?
congrats
Congrats!
I haven't really trained no Gi in a couple of months so the jury is out on how it has impacted my no Gi game. I wanted to get good at the Gi very quickly so I committed to it.
As far as my body is concerned, Gi is extremely low impact. My back and neck feel good. However my fingers hate my guts.
Congrats cuo!
