Half Moon pushups are just plain weird looking. Out of curiosity how come regular pushups weren't included in Gotch's conditioning stuff?

Regular pushups are included in his training methods, especially for beginners. There is an emphasis on circular movement so that is the most important thing, everything is done with circular motion (hindu squats, hindu pushups, half moon, leg over pushups, gymnastic rings, club swinging, bridging gymnastics, etc.) There are some straight things like handstand pushups and one legged squats, but most of the emphasis is circular in one way or another.
