In addition to a free live broadcast of the UFC on Spike, Revere Ma. played host to an amazing night of bouts! World Fighting League put on 17, that's right SEVENTEEN action-packed MMA fights at Club Lido. This was a big night for MMA in MA because, without the sanctioning of the boxing commission, promoters, fighters, and fans proved once again that we can run a safe professional show on our own. An added bonus was a visit from the New Hampshire State Boxing Commission who were reportedly very enthusiastic about bringing MMA up north.
As one of the referees last night, I want to personally thank everone involved with this show. Both fighters and fans alike conducted themselves with class. I can't remember all the results, but whoever's got'em post'em!
One last thing, I hear there is yet ANOTHER promotion in town looking to make their debut in late September. Keep an eye out for TKO'Riley's and a VERY familiar voice handling the microphone!!!!!!!
Yes they were. The only change was that we allowed backfists and things like soft knee supports, thai ankle wraps, etc. The reason that we did not change major rules was because the state of Mass. may very well begin sanctioning fights again within the next few weeks and the last thing we needed was lots of blood and more ammo for the media. Last night the sanctioning body was the USKBA and they wanted to keep things the same too. Paul from the USKBA gave me the proposed rules they have drafted for starting an amateur rank. Looks like a great idea. Knees and elbows would be great, but I think only for pro or title fights. I have found that lots of people love the idea of knees and elbows to the head until they get hit with them!!
I won.
Matt Lee won.
Jorge won.
Bob Pupa won.
Mandela won.
Sezar Barros won.
People definetly got their money's worth this time. 17 fights is a HELL of a lot. I got there at 5:30pm and didn't fight til 11:30. Great show though. I had a friends that came that had never seen a MMA show before and they were stoked coming out of the show. I can't remember any of the fights going to decision at all. If one of the MassMMA guys has the full results, post away. The above is all I can remember.
Congrats to Dennis Keefe on his win, and the legions of fans that showed up to support him. Dont think you could hear a thing during his fight. Win by RNC in the first!
