The first wazari for Grol is at 4:10, the ippon for Zhitkeyev is at 4:50.
This was in the first round of -100kg, Zhitkeyev went on to win Silver and Grol got bronze.
What say you gentlemen!
IMO the first wazari should have been maybe a yuko. Zhitkeyev's back never touches the mat, he bridged and rotated on the top of this head. And Grol didn't have control, he just basically pushed Zhitkeyev over from behind after a failed throw (landing on his own back in the process).
The ippon was tricky. Each guy's throw landed the other on his back. But Zhitkeyev's was a counter, so a successful counter overrules a successful initial technique. That is a tough spot for the ref.
Grol's behavior afterwards was a disgrace.
I agree the call could have gone either way, and that Grol acted like a fucking idiot. I know many a ref who would have given him a hansokumake for such behavior, and gotten him booted out of the tournament no matter what.
Kazakhstan: greatest country in the world,
All other countries are run by little girls.
Correct call imo, Zhitkeyev's momentum was fluid. It wasnt like the Dutch got the intial td - PAUSE - and then the Kazak flipped him over, it was all one motion.
Obi-tori baby, one of my fav moves back in the day.
what's the ruling on the sleeve length?
grol's gi sleeves looked short.
I may be mistaken (and I haven't watched the vid), but it was my understanding that bridging to avoid a higher score was disregarded.
Steve72 you are right, I googled it. There are many references to disregarding bridges, or scoring it higher, for safety reasons to discourage dangerous bridging. I did not know that!
