FRAT ALERT:
How quickly we forget, I'm amazed by the lack of respect that people are showing for Georges. Now, Nick is a terrific fighter and he had a brilliant performance last night - but people are seriously underrating Georges. Nick for as talented as he is, is simply no where near the level of Georges St. Pierre.
People are claiming that Nick's stand up is too good, that his pace is unrelenting and GSP won't be able to deal with it, that his ground game is too sharp for St. Pierre. Let's be realistic, Nick's stand up is too good? Really? Yes, Nick is arguably the best Boxer in all of MMA - but with that said, this is MMA. What I'm trying to get at is that there are far more tools for Georges in the standup department that he can use to exploit Nick's weaknesses. Georges may not necessarily be the better boxer but he is the better striker. Nick does have holes in his game, for example his lack of overall defense, he gets tagged way too often - perfect example, the guy doesn't check leg kicks. Remember the Cyborg fight? Cyborg landed numerous inside leg kicks - If you don't think that will be an option in their matchup, well, you're nuts.
As far as technique goes, like I said Nick leaves holes - openings that I think Georges will exploit and take advantage of. Nick as a striker, relies off of his chin, cardio, and most importantly his reach. That's what made the difference last night. He had a longer reach than BJ - but he'll have the shorter reach when fighting St. Pierre - not to mention the fact that St. Pierre is a significantly faster, powerful, and more explosive athlete than Diaz. Getting back to Diaz, what Nick needs for him to be successful is distance. I'll expect Georges too control the distance rather easily, Diaz flourishes when he has you cornered. That's when he tees off on people. The thing is I doubt that GSP will ever be in trouble, GSP will dictate the distance with his jab. He'll jab, double jab, jab to the solar plexus.
In other words, I doubt that Nick will ever get inside the reach. Which means Nick will be put on the defensive, and Nick is definitely not a defensive fighter. He's not a great counter-striker, his footwork isn't nearly as good, and his head movement is virtually nonexistent. In short, he can't fight a defensive fight. And that's exactly the type of fight that he's going to be force to fight. And that's just the difference that Georges jab will make. Add in the leg kicks, the combinations that Georges puts together so well, and the threat of the takedown - I seriously doubt that Nick will get anything done. Speaking of takedowns, I'm willing to bet that GSP will be able to takedown Nick at will. Nick is a terrific fighter, but his wrestling is subpar. Georges happens to be the best Wrestler in MMA.
And if GSP can get the fight to the ground, well, he'll win. Yes, Nick is very good off of his back - but GSP is a master from the top position. I highly doubt that Diaz will be able to get anything going off of his back, Georges should be able to posture up with ease and rain down a volley of strikes. And those strikes will set up his possible guard passes and transitions. Nick is a great fighter, but there is a way to beat him. Georges most likely will formulate a game plan that will render Diaz's skillet useless. As far as pace goes, GSP has never gassed. GSP's striking, and Wrestling will set the tempo early and Nick won't know what to do.
Nick is a great fighter - one of the best, but GSP is a whole different animal. The guy has beaten elite strikers like Alves, he's beaten elite wrestlers like Fitch and Kos, and he's beaten elite BJJ fighters like BJ Penn. He's in many people's opinion the #1 or #2 P4P best fighter in the world. And I'm 100% positive he will defeat Nick Diaz. In all honesty, I don't see how Nick has a shot in this fight. And I think he made a serious mistake by trash talking Georges. GSP performs best when people talk trash, just look at what GSP did to BJ. As Georges says, "…And still Welter Weight Champion of the world Georges 'Rush' St. Pierre." (or more realistically, ad still da Welta Wayt Champion of da world Georges 'Rush' St. Pierre).

FRAT, and if you truly are amazed at the "lack of disrespect" for GSP, you need to find another MMA forum.
Diaz will kill GSP standing.
All GSP has to do is follow the same EXACT gameplan he did with Penn in GSP-Penn 2. Clinch...takedown... GNP.
GSP will easily win it... because of his wrestling.... but make no mistake... Diaz is better than him at everything else.
tl;dr
Anarkis -Diaz is better everywhere? Really?lionsoul - Diaz will kill GSP standing.

GSP has a nasty jab.
Georges has better takedowns, and that's about it. But that's enough to win the fight.
HexRei - Georges has better takedowns, and that's about it. But that's enough to win the fight.Pretty much... GSP is good enough to avoid the sub during top control... gonna be a long and shitty fight...

I actually agree with you. Diaz is a much bigger threat to take GSP's belt than Condit is, and Condit is a dangerous fight for GSP. I hope GSP is telling the truth when he said he's going to put the worst beating ever on Diaz, because we might just see the pre-Serra GSP again. It's time to start finishing fights, Georges!!
If by fuck up you mean lay on him and hold him Down for five rounds you're probably right.
Fuck GSP's boring ass. I use to be a big fan but now the thought of him fighting put me to sleep
DaHomewilder -What bullshit? That Diaz is supposedly better than everyone? or That GSP has a good jab?Anarkis -lol at this bullshitlionsoul - Diaz will kill GSP standing.

Some common sense on this thread...
It's hard to picture GSP getting stuck against the cage. He actually has footwork. And takedowns.

thirdleg - lol, I always think about lookoutawhale's Bloodsport parody with GSP constantly making fools of his critics. I have no doubt he'll jab Diaz, take him down, pound him a bit, and repeat for 5 rounds. Expect it to be a UD or stopped on a cut.
The parody is fucking hilarious btw
