In an interview with Sherdog radio, Firas Zahabi, UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre's head trainer, said a move to 155 was more likely than a move to 185 for the French-Canadian superstar.
Now granted, this is simply speculative. Zahabi also mentioned that a move to 155 is far less likely with Frankie Edgar holding the belt.
The reason being is that both GSP and Edgar train Brazilian jiu jitsu under Renzo Gracie, so obviously these two have trained with each other on many occasions and would like to avoid each other in the Octagon if possible.
So, while fully acknowledging the fact that this fight may very well never happen, here are four reasons why Georges "Rush" St-Pierre would definitively defeat Frankie "The Answer" Edgar.
Size/Power Difference
GSP's Takedowns and Takedown Defense
GSP's Superior Striking
GSP's Top Game
GSP a few years ago would have been more suited for 155 than 185. Current GSP though, the GSP who has been tacking on muscle consistently in order to become bigger for his weight class/potentially move to 185? No fucking way. Unless he somehow lost a lot of that muscle, which I think would be unhealthy, then there's no way he could make that weight.
Don't forget, he had a really tough weight cut to get to 170 against Shields. Both he and Aldo looked like absolute shit during the thing they put on with all seven champions.
Cmon really? Anybody that believes GSP could make 155 is delusional (think I spelled it wrong) but when he cuts at weigh ins you could Dell there is no way he could drop anymore what's up with his coach it think he was being sarcastic
^ This. I'd go out of my way to avoid Anderson Silva too, he's bad for your career, just ask Vitor. Pretty sure he was on some sort of streak/comeback and people thought he could take Anderson Silva, until he was almost decapitated within their first real exchange.
And lol at whoever said speed kills....This isn't Football or Hockey. I'm pretty confident in saying Edgar vs GSP would be like a girl vs a guy. GSP 10/10 times in this hypothetical MU.
GSP is a great fighter who trains hard to improve between every fight. He's skilled, strong and determined, but he lacks the figher mentality; he's scared of being hit, he's scared of move up in weight, he's scared to fight the bests. The guy just wants to fight safe and keep the belt avoiding blows and keeping his opponent to the ground or moving across the cage hitting him with jabs. I don't want to see him moving down to 155 to fight a 5'6 Edgar with a huge height and reach advantage.
